Sounds mostly nice. Quik is too bitter to make this an enjoyable album for me. He's good on funky party sounding stuff, but lyrically it's all bitching and moaning lately

I'll give the whole thing a propper listen over the weekend. The tracks were playing out of sequence on my phone

I actually liked angry Quik on BOD but the guy needs to leave his personal life out of the studio and go back to making fun music

Some good tracks and some really wack shit. Surprised on some of the tracks. I don't know what Quik was thinking but this album is levels below his standards.

Im enjoying this album, i just didn't enjoy life jacket because the girl messed up the track, she can't sing and for some reason it sounds like it could be mixed better. Other than that Quik is a musical genius as usual, I wish I could meet him one day

Lifetime Quik fan from day 1... Dude has never disappointed me as a fan.
I'm scooping it.

I'll give it a spin then grab a copy @Q's CD signing at the local record shop on the 16th.

I was a bit disapointed at first but the more I listen to it, the more i'm liking it!

And Puffin The Dragon is just the best song I've heard this year, this is what I call divine music  :o

Pretty much same as me homie. Sounds like Quik is bored with rap. Production wise he still shines. On every album Quik manages without fail to totally reinvent the tired formula of West Coast beats by sound selection alone. To him every track is a concept track (which I dig) but the song structures are screwy and he's throwing a verse on there and saying DONE rather than refining anything but the sonics (an engineer at heart like Dre).

It also sounds like he puts people on his album as a favour. Not one guest I felt added positively to the album, and most of the featured stuff sounds like leftover grade material at best. I said that Quik sounds bored but the one redeeming track for me is Pet Sematary. Everything vibes right. The music is pure and Quik drops some chill MCing without going in HEAVY on his Pet hates: bitches, betrayers and naysayers.

Overall it's not a disaster. But where Book of David grew on me as an album, I don't except this one to change over time. Individual tracks will stay in rotation tho.

1. Intro: n/a
2. That Nigger's Crazy 7/10
3. Back That Shit Up 5/10
4. Trapped On The Tracks 5/10
5. El's Interlude 2 n/a
6. Puffin The Dragon 7/10
7. Pet Sematary: 7.5/10
8. Life Jacket 6.5/10
9. That Getter 6.5/10
10. The Conduct 6/10
11. Shine 5/10
12. Bacon's Groove 6.5/10
13. Broken Down 6.5/10
14. Why'd You Have To Lie 5/10
15. Fuck All Night 6.5/10
16. Quik's Groove 9 7/10

Album score 5.5/10 (just shy of a ★★★/★★★★★ album)

^ I agree regarding the featurings (except for Suga Free) and as a "rapper" yes I think he's tired, but not on tracks like "That Getter" or "Broken Down", for example when he talks about his fans turned into Internet critics, good point.

As a DJ Quik die hard fan, I'm so happy he used again the talkbox (The Conduct) and them fonky synths (Broken Down)...  I think this is waaay better than Blaqkout and Book of David.
The banjo is pure Quikness! He's one of the few producers to have them crazy ideas.. it reminds me of beats like "Total Auto", genius!
