England's budget yesterday (war spending)
« on: April 10, 2003, 08:48:18 AM »
Forgot to post this yesterday. This is what Gordon Brown set aside to pay for the war and its effects:

£3 BILLION for the Ministry of Defence, JUST for the war in Iraq

£330 Million for homeland security and counter-terrorism.

£240 million for reconstruction of Iraq and peace in the Middle East.

The first figure really shocked me, that's a LOT of unnecessary spenditure. Imagine if they put just a fraction of that into fixing the public transport problem, or building shelters and relief programs for the homeless, or renovating schools and paying teachers, or fixing our fast-declining national health service. 3 Billion pounds! What is the world coming to.
