One of Compton’s true OGs, none other than DJ Quik, was the subject of the most recent episode of TV One‘s always insightful Unsung. Quik (government name: David Blake) was one of the originators of the G-funk canon, and along with his Compotonian contemporaries NWA, changed the face and sound of the rap game forever with their real-as-life-itself narratives and blazing, funk-fortified production styles. Unsung offers a keen vantage on the life and times of Blake, charting his come-up every step (both forward and back) along the way. I won’t take the fun out of a gripping 30-plus minutes of biographical goodness for you, but it should be noted that this particular tale is one that’s got all of the atmospheric highs and subterranean lows one can bear. You can watch TV One’s expertly crafted Unsung on the life and times of one DJ Quik below, along with some of his forthcoming tour dates so that you can get a grip of funk live and direct.

Really dope... Quik talking on some personal ish. Makes me appreciate his genius even more.

Hope we get to hear those new Truth Hurts tracks at the end soon...
