I have a younger head who hasn't heard anything pre-2010, but wants to learn. He like Vince Staples and Schoolboy Q but has no clue about who influenced them.
I'm gonna load up a thumb drive of west coast gangsta shit from the 90s through mid-2000s.
Must have suggestions? Name some stuff you think is essential. I have a pretty wide library but I might be missing something.

I seriously reccomend Express Yourself by NWA for a sound objective on the origins of their conceptual art.

For west coast gangsta rap, I'd go
Dre - chronic
Snoop - Doggystyle
Dogg pound - Dogg food
Jayo felony - take a ride
Brotha lynch - season of the siccness
Celly cel - killa kali
Mac Dre - stupid doo doo dumb
Dr dre - 2001
2pac - all eyez on me
C-bo - gas chamber
Westside connection - bow down
Spice 1 - amerikkkaz nightmare
Kurupt - streetz
Game - documentary
Off top
Nothin as far as gangsta rap was really crackin like that post-2000, I threw game in for good measures, prolly the worst album on the list

Not exactly gangsta rap and not in the same category with the artists already mentioned in this thread, but why don't you let him listen to some of Sly Boogy's work too? You can hardly say the dude influenced any of the new generation west coast representers, but for all it's worth I think his style shouldn't go unnoticed.
