Author Topic: Who is the most prolific artist of the West Coast? [Top 5 Discussion]  (Read 2150 times)

We all know Kokane holds the title for the most featured artist, but a lot of the songs he is on only have a hook or a bridge from him. Who is the most prolific one (or top 5) when you only consider own projects and feature verses? According to me the list goes like this:

1. Kurupt (it has to be him, the amount of features he has done is endless not even counting solo albums, mixtapes and DPG albums)
2. Crooked I (the guy's a workaholic, his solo material is only a couple of projects deep, but feature-wise the list is insanely long)
3. E-40 (putting out a gazillion albums a year has to pay off for the Bay Area legend)
4. Kokane (honorary spot)
5. Snoop Dogg (his mixtape game is crazy and having that many albums out doesn't hurt either)

I feel like if anyone from the new generation listeners gets into listening to any of those artists at this point in time they'd have the toughest time tracking everything down  8)

kurupt is up there, but he doesn't have the mainstream resume ala snoop. snoop does it on all ends.

The main post was asking about which artist had pushed out the most tracks throughout their career. Snoop may do an intergalactic feature if he wants, but he'll still be trailing 200-300 tracks behind...

On another note you are right about his reach ;D ;D

Kurupt and Daz have songs with artists from Eastern Europe, Crooked has tracks with people from Iran. Kokane is doing tracks with Clint Dogg  ;D ;D They all have a worldwide reach

Being "prolific" is often to their detriment though.  At some point the supply overstepped the demand.  I used to clamor towards anything Snoop had on the shelf, even if was just some guest appearance on the Men in Black soundtrack.  But now he's got loads of music I've never even heard.

It should be quality over quantity--I prefer Dre's method.  It used to be the way back in the day but Puffy kind of changed the game and things got watered down after the Death Row era.

I would say Snoop Dogg is definitely up there, he's put out so many albums and must have been featured on over 500 tracks by now.  I don't think I'll ever hear everything he's done.

Also Too $hort has been going for ages - remember on 'Blow The Whistle' when he raps that he's done 1000 tracks or something like that?

according to discogs:

snoop dogg:

https://www.discogs.com/artist/132084-Snoop-Dogg

Kurupt:

https://www.discogs.com/artist/66154-Kurupt

dogg pound:

https://www.discogs.com/artist/113497-Tha-Dogg-Pound

so i think snoop is on ahigher level.

nate dogg:

https://www.discogs.com/artist/109832-Nate-Dogg 8i tought he got more than these)

They got nice lists, but Discogs is unreliable as they are always missing loads of underground features that are never released commercially and just drop on soundcloud or datpiff etc
