Author Topic: legends and respected artists you just never got into or don’t care for?  (Read 3777 times)

I figured this would make for an interesting thread so I’ll start it off:

Talib Kweli - outside of BlackStar and Reflection Eternal, I was not moved by any other albums I heard and find his voice/flow to be pretty boring after awhile, he’s kinda carried by great production

Mos Def - also outside of BlackStar, didn’t care for any of his solo work and the way some people have hyped him up over the years just makes me find him to be over-rated

Cypress Hill - their first album was alright, Temples Of Boom is a classic, outside of that I didn’t care for much else and I can only tolerate B-Real’s voice for so long, but I respect him as a person and as a legend in the rap/weed game... B-Real and Berner albums were dope too though

Joe Budden - has some great songs scattered in his catalog and a few solid tapes but zero classic albums, his flow can also be a snoozer after just a few songs

Royce Da 5”9 - I’ve only copped the Prhyme albums because I feel Primo brings the best out of him and their chemistry can’t be denied, was never impressed with any of his other albums and always thought he was just an average rapper

Busta Rhymes - has classic songs and guest apperances but could never quite hold an entire album down, in my opinion... Anarchy is hard though

A Tribe Called Quest - yeah they’re legends with classic albums and all, but I just didn’t grow up bumping their shit and never really gravitated toward their music, plus some of their super-fans are pretty fucking annoying lol

I’ll add more but that’s just off top

I never really got into E-40. I respect him and like a handful of his songs (usually the ones with features i like). Just never was a big fan of his flow.

Too Short
Wu Tang Clan
Eminem

I respect all of them and their places in rap music history, just never got into any albums from any of them. Liked a few songs here and there.

even though I love Mac Dre and he's one of the GOATS in my eyes I can totally understand that, it took me years of really digging into his catalog + lyrics to appreciate what he brought to the table and some joints I didn't like at all until I got older (and experimented with some other drugs which gave me another perspective )

MF Doom is kinda another one for me too, he's mood music for sure... I might play some of his joints on vinyl when I'm chilling smoking but I doubt I'd ever ride around to him

For me
Jay-Z (I like his album's but think he's overrated, no personality)
OutKast (like their older stuff but never really got into it, I think Andre 3000 is way overrated)
Mob Deep (find Prodigy's flow boring like he is just talking on the tracks)
Talib Kweli (really liked his first album but his voice kind of annoys me now)
Mos Def (never really seen the big deal)
Mac Dre (never got into his music, only think he's considered a legend because he died)
Rass Kas (don't like his voice find him boring)
Too $hort (don't like his flow)
B-Legit (same as above)

New artists
Drake (sounds like a whiny and annoying)
Freddie Gibbs (I always check out his projects because of the hype but don't see the big deal)
Lupe Fiasco (same as Talib Kweli)

Biggie for me. Always thought he was slightly overrated & was always team Pac. Just kind of turned me off to him.
