who is/was Chyna?

"Chyna is the next 2Pac" says: Derek Fisher Lakers

"Chyna" was born as Tavares Chaves Dorsey on March 8, 1978 in the city of Lynwood, California.  He soon moved to the projects in Compton, California where he spent the majority of his life.  He began writing rap lyrics at a very young age.  Almost everyone around him told him he was wasting his time.  That didn't stop Chyna, it only made him work harder.  He spent every minute he had away from hustling on the streets to write music.  It was a release to him and provided a small offering of peace in a world filled with madness.  Chyna always said that if it wasn't for the love of his music, he would not be alive today.  Like many people that lived in the projects, Chyna was looking for his way out.  He soon married his wife Andrea and had three children, Tavares j.r., Paige, and Little Chyna.  Taking care of his responsibilities was his number one priority.  He learned this the hard way from his father, whom was very strict.

Chyna was a highly motivated and determined individual, despite many hardships that were brought his way.  At age 21 Chyna was shot and still had to find ways to support his family.  His music was a constant effort throughout his life.  He attended every party the he could perform at and battle other artists.  He also would look through all of the local papers in order to attend talent contests.  Every event he competed in, he came out on top.  At the age of 23 many different large labels were showing interest in the young talented Chyna.  He received letters from "Death Row", "Interscope", and a few others.  At age 24 Chyna had a couple of small deals on the table.  His father had told him to wait for the right offer and to not just settle for anything.  So Chyna kept on attending events.  In 2001 Chyna had seen an ad in the penny saver magazine for rap artists.  He called in to the record company Prophesy Entertainment, as small label which was run be Chris Madani and Mark Bobbitt.  He was instructed that in order to enter the talent show, he must pay $45.  This was a lot of money for Chyna in the current situation he was in.  He started to take a collection in the neighborhood $1 at a time.

Once Chyna collected his $45 entry fee, he immediately started to practice his performance of "Nobody Speaks".  Chyna gave the performance of his life in front of the huge crowd and won first prize over 15 other talented artists.  At this point he had caught the eye of Chris Madani.  Chyna started to come into the Prophesy Entertainment studio on a daily basis just to get in the box and spit some lyrics on the microphone.  In the beginning of 2002 Prophesy Entertainment split, and partner Chris Madani started his own label, Wicked Bunch Records.  Chyna and Chris's relationship was already strong, so Chris signed Chyna to the label.  At this point Calvin Sparks was also signed to the label as musical producer.  His talent on the triton keyboard, mp, and many other instruments added a great asset to the team.  The team spent every day and night together working on Chyna's album. They would work around the clock, 48 hours straight and then sleep for a few hours and back on the grind.

In the end of 2003 the album was finished and consisted of 12 hot tracks ready for the streets.  Time was scarce for Chris with many other artists joining his label.  He had seen the dedication and drive in Chyna and put everyone and everything else on the back burner.  For the first three months of 2004, Chyna performed at over 25 Clubs such as House of Blues,  events, and many parties.  At this point the people were becoming addicted to his recognizable voice.  Some girls would go as far as crying for him.  He began to sign autographs and pass out cd demos at the events.  Soon over a 1000 copies of the album On Credit were on the streets.  Chyna helped to put Wicked Bunch on the map.  Chyna soon became partner at the label.

The next chapter was to invest in the statewide promotion of this venture.  Chris was attending many events such as music award ceromonies, famous artist parties and other events.  He met up with artists such as, (Ludacris, Usher, Bentley, Nick Cannon, 50 cent, Lil Jon, Sugar Hill Gang) and many others.  Chris gathered the knowledge from their experience which the artists shared with him.  Sugar Hill Gang had spent some time with Chris listening to the album.  They were very impressed and invited Chyna to open for them in Australia and Japan.  Chris wanted to make sure that the timing was right.  They still needed a song to take over the club scenen.  They collaborated with Knoc-Turn'Al and Roscoe and put together a song called "All 4 U".  The track was done by Dimizza who worked on Mariah Carey's projects as well as other platinum artists.

Everything is finally finished and Chyna is attending daily meetings with attorneys and large record labels with Chris.  They are currently looking for the right distribution deal.
