Its Official ODB To The ROC
« on: May 03, 2003, 05:40:38 AM »
"I think what y'all are witnessing is an evolution of an empire." That's what Roc-A-Fella CEO Damon Dash boldly stated as he introduced the newest member of his hip-hop empire, Ol' Dirty Bastard.

As he has in the past, when ODB enters a different stage in his life, he changes his alias. This time he is going by Dirt McGirt, which is also the name of his clothing line he was proudly sporting at the press conference held yesterday at the Rihga Royal Hotel. ODB says that he is looking forward to a future with Roc-A-Fella and that he's happy to "be out." "They tried to lock me in, I went from Clinton to Marcy Correctional, from Marcy I went to Manhattan State Hospital. I was running around being Dirt McGirt and then they was saying 'what about this cat right here, he seem a little crazy'. So you know I had to hit them with a couple of Dirt McGirt Wear...and they let me go!" He said as a rupture of laughter filled the room.

Dash explained that he signed the controversial rapper against popular opinion because he sees ODB as a good person who's talented and is looking to get money. This in reference to ODB's past run-ins with the law and mental institutions. Although no specified amount of the deal was disclosed, Dash welcomed the newest member of his family with the trademark Roc-A-Fella chain, as a gold mouthed, healthier ODB joyfully accepted. Dash also revealed that the union between the two came about after an executive from VH1, who also was documenting the conference, saw an episode of Driven and "quickly made it happen."

Not only does ODB look and sound better -- he made sure he let the public know that he felt as good as he looks. He was in good spirits and had a more positive outlook on his career and life in general. He also says he looks forward to working with artists such as 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey and Ghostface Killah. When asked if he planned on doing anything with any other members of the Wu-Tang Clan, Dash quickly answered for him, "anything he wants!"

Others in attendance were Roc-a-Fella labelmate Rell and Mariah Carey, whose entrance proved that she is definitely still a diva. ODB's mother was also by his side throughout the entire conference.

Killah Priest, who is a former member of the Wu-Tang spin off group Sunz of Man, had this to say about ODB's new business venture, "Whoa! It's all good. He's doing him, I gotta do me." [Look out for Priest's fourth album due out on July 8th entitled, Black August.]
