HIS FIRST ALBUM “VENICE” WAS STRAIGHT SINGIN

THEN A RARE VERSE HERE N THERE ON HIS LAST 2 PROJECTS “MALIBU” N “YES LAWD”

NOW ON HIS LATEST ALBUM “OXNARD”, SHIT THREW ME OFF WHEN HE WAS RAPPING 90% OF THE ALBUM

HE’S A COOL RAPPER, BUT A MUCH BETTER SINGER.... I THINK THATS WHY “MALIBU” AND “YES LAWD” WERE SO MUCH BETTER THAN HIS NEW SHIT.

I HAVENT HEARD ANYONE BRING THIS UP.. WHY THE SUDDEN TRANSITION?

Sales?  Appeal to a wider audience?

I notice nearly every artist changes their style/delivery as the years go by.  Anyone that tells you it has anything to do with anything other than sales and mainstream appeal is fooling themselves.

changing styles is one thing

but going from a singer to a rapper is changing genres

it almost sounds like he wanted his own “tpab”

WHY THE SUDDEN TRANSITION?

Because he was releasing a major label album and they need to streamline your image and style to an extent to make it more palatable to the mainstream.  And let's face it -- the previous albums weren't blockbusters sales-wise, so the powers that be knew they had to slim him down and package him differently.
"Detox" is a myth -- Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, Area 51, Iraq having WMD, Detox...you get it now?  It was invented by the Aftermath marketing department to maintain the fans' attention.  Notice how everytime a new Aftermath album is ready to come out, they always mention Detox is next up?  Because they are using the invention of "Detox" as a way to market other albums.  The sooner you realize that Detox is NOT REAL, the sooner you'll feel liberated.  Oh yeah, f.u. Aftermath for fooling us fans.

i thought his last 2 albums def had more pop appeal

they were even playin them in commercials and nba game segways

this is a step backwards commercially imo

Maybe I'm tripping, but this dude sounds more and more like Kendrick to me. Not trying to say that he's as good of a rapper but just saying his tone and just his style in general is similar. Maybe that's why he's rapping more now?

they definitely share a similar cadence

i used to say paak was the rich man’s singing version of kendrick .. now he’s just a poor man’s rapping version. hopefully he learned his lesson, as i’m not sure “oxnard” did the numbers they expected.
