Insane Clown Posse - The Wraith: Shangri-La
« on: May 07, 2003, 03:28:10 PM »
First off I know a lotta muthafuckaz are gonna hate, but fuck it!  Why the hell did you click on the thread if you were gonna hate on ICP?  If you're actually interested and you are gonna give it a chance then by all means, read on:

Insane Clown Posse – The Wraith: Shangri-La

1. Intro/Walk into the light…Starts with a powerful minute and a half intro and then goes into the soft, simple production.  Shaggy and J basically talk over the track instead of rapping.  Exceptional hook.  5/5
2. Welcome to the show…Uptempo/uplifting/happy sounding beat starts off the track.  ICP spit traditional ICP contented lyrics.  Great verses and another A+ chorus.  4.5/5
3. Get ya wicked on…A short song; under 2 minutes long…just wish it was longer.  Dope production, lyrics and chorus.  4/5
4. Murder rap…An amazing re-make of Above the Law’s song with the same title.  Lyrics are basically the same, with a slight difference here and there.  Chorus is different and more of a “rock” sound.  4.5/5
5. Birthday bitches…Another short track just over a minute long.  Shaggy goes solo on this one talking about entertaining a birthday party with murder.  Strange beat.  4/5
6. Blaaam!!!…Smooth laidback production.  J tells a story about getting a magic lamp with Shaggy lending his vocals on every 2nd bar of 4.  Loud chorus which is a bit out of character with the rest of the song, but it’s still a 5.  5/5
7. It rains diamonds…Mostly a rock-oriented track, especially the chorus.  Anybody Killa spits a few bars with flow nicely.  Good track talking about Shangri-La (Heaven).  4/5
7 ½.  Bitch slappaz…Very old-school vibe to the song.  Blaze accompanies J and Shaggy to spit lines about slapping everyone.  Funny track.  4/5
8. The staleness…Another uniquely produced song.  You can’t help but love it.  A verse by Shaggy and J speaks on slicing someone up and breaking out of an insane asylum  respectively.  The end chorus is hella addictive.  5/5
9. Hell’s forecast…This is actually more of a preview of what’s to come on “Hell’s Pit”.  An evil account of the end of the world with a slight twist at the end.  Dark production and tight hook.  5/5
10.   Homies…Has more of a “pop-rock” feel to it.  A song that everyone can relate to with their own friends.  Head noddin’ chorus.  Twitid adds a nice verse at the end.  4/5
11.   Ain’t yo bidness…Simple, but amazing production.  J goes solo for the verses and Shaggy helps out on the hook.  Flow is unique and the chorus is great.  4.5/5
11 ½.  Soopa Villians…A short trailer at the end of the track with a sample of Mission Impossible.  Esham appears with J and Shaggy.  Tight track.  4/5
12. We belong…A tight song explaining that if you don’t fit into any other group and are an outcast, you always have a place in the Juggalo family.  Great production which is simple, but effective chorus.  5/5
13.   Cotton candy & popsicles…A fuck song.  The verses are good and the production on them are tight as well, but the chorus ruins this track for me.  It is too loud and just doesn’t fit.  2.5/5
14.   Crossing the bridge…A powerful song with more of a religious twist than previous tracks they’ve done.  Chorus is rock sounding, but it has a deep meaning overall.  4/5
15.   The Raven’s mirror…Shaggy opens up the track with a typical humorous verse with great production accompanying the lyrics.  The track fades into another, darker sounding beat where J spits a verse about being buried alive.  Again the track fades into a final chorus at the end that is very catchy.  5/5
16. The Wraith…Explaining who the Wraith is: A phantom here to take lives to Heaven or Hell.  Quality verses, tight production and an A+ hook.  4.5/5
17.   The Unveiling…The Juggalos have been waiting for this since 1993.  The hidden message of the 6 Joker’s cards.  A rather short one verse explanation and the rest of the song opens up to famous choruses they’ve had in the past, paying tribute to past albums.  A touching track.  5/5

OVERALL:  4.75/5

Since the first Joker’s Card in 1993, the Juggalos have been waiting for this release.  And this is just half of “The Wraith”.  This is the Shangri-La (Heaven) part and the other one will be “Hell’s Pit”.  ICP went with a new producer, Mike P to produce this album which has a very distinct difference in sound from their previous releases.  Each song flows nicely into the next.  The CD really grows on you.

I could name plenty of people that probably wouldn't back me up....because they'd give it a 5/5.  No one else on the board will listen to them, but fuck it.  Everybody around here does.  One minute we're bumpin' C-Bo or Brotha Lynch, the next minute it's ICP then back to Nas and Spice 1.  ICP's in the reg rotation with all the people I hang with.
