Kurupt's "Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha" 20th Anniversary
« on: November 16, 2019, 03:50:37 AM »
Another classic album turned 20 today. Came out the same day as Dre's "2001" and we need to celebrate this one too. I finally found myself a copy of this that has "Callin' Out Names" on it a few weeks ago. I'm about to give this classic a spin right now. What are your favorite songs from it? Any good memories from listenin' to the album?

It's surprising you didn't have it already since Callin' Out Names was supposed to be on the European version of the album. Here all the CDs in stores had Callin Out Names.

Favorite songs :
Represent Dat G.C.
Welcome Home
Neva Gonna Give It Up
Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha
I Ain't Shit Without my Homeboyz
Callin Out Names

no weak songs on the album though, just some I don't enjoy as much. I could have included more.

I don't have specific memories attached to the album but I remember bumping it a lot when I was in 9th grade before going to school, during the weekends, etc. good times

IMO this is the best dogg pound release ever.

I disagree. Dogg Food's production is far superior in my opinion. The album's more cohesive and Kurupt's verses are all memorable. On tha streetz, the albums feels great because of the "family / clique" vibe, the versatility of the songs and the different producers (organized noise, fredwreck, daz, soopafly, dr dre, bink) but Kurupt wasn't really sharp anymore : you could feel he was starting to yell on some songs, some unnecessary repetitive rhymes too and nonsensical stuff. It doesn't ruin the album as it was only in some instances but this gives Dogg Food an edge. the production on Tha Streetz iz a mutha is great, but it doesn't bang as much as Dogg Food.

this album is special AF mayne; isn't it crazy how Kuruption, 2001 and TSIAM all have versions of Housewife?
