Yeah I just saw this too.  Seems with digital media now Em’s gone the opposite extreme... the old system of building anticipation months before the album with like street single (“Just Don’t Give A Fuck”) then radio single (“My Name Is”) magazine features, promo shows, street teams etc all building a buzz for a big release date—has been replaced with—surprise releases.

Which is cool I mean he doesn’t have much of a choice, so it’s an interesting way to go about it.  I remember being depressed my Freshman year of high school 96-97 sitting in Math class—after Pac had died, Suge locked up, Snoop bricked with Doggfather and to pass the time in Math class I would invent releases in my head, like a Kurupt solo or some shit like that and imagine they’d just shocked the game and released it on a Tuesday without any promotion.  I’d imagine the sound and impact of it, sales, and so on.

(As a side note Kuruption was released like nearly two years later on a label other than Death Row And aside from lead single and a few bangers it was largely disappointing considering I’d already over-hyped it in my head long before)

I guess Em felt he was victim to unrealistic expectations and prefers surprise releases

Eminem Surprise-Releases New Album ‘Music to Be Murdered By’

Rapper releases anti-gun violence clip for new single “Darkness” channeling Las Vegas Route 91 shooting

Eminem surprise-released his 11th album on midnight Thursday, ending weeks of rumors and speculation on when the rapper would unveil the follow-up to 2018’s Kamikaze.

The 20-song album features guest appearances by Ed Sheeran, Black Thought, Q-Tip, Royce Da 5’9″, Anderson .Paak, Young M.A. and a posthumous appearance by Juice WRLD. The album also finds the rapper enlisting three-quarters of the Em-affillated supergroup Slaughterhouse with “I Will,” featuring Royce, Joell Ortiz and Kxng Crooked.

To accompany the album’s release, the rapper unveiled the anti-gun violence video for “Darkness,” in which a sparse piano ballad and minimalist drums anchor the quiet track. What starts off as a song about loneliness and the crushing weight of solitude builds to a tale of a man murdering people with guns as his outlet. The clip channels the 2017 Route 91 Harvest music festival shooting in Las Vegas, where a gunman opened fire from his hotel room and killed 58 people before killing himself.

The clip ends with a montage of various actual other mass shootings in America with the message, “When will this end? When enough people care. Register to vote at Vote.gov. Make your voice heard and help change gun laws in America.” The video also links to a new website with information and links to various anti-gun violence organizations such as Everytown for Gun Safety and Sandy Hook Promise.

Eminem announced the album on Twitter by sharing its cover art and writing, “It’s your funeral…” The rapper also wrote that the album was inspired by filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, which is reflected in the LP title and photo used in the album art he tweeted. The interlude “Alfred” features a clip from Hitchcock introducing his sole album release, 1958’s Music to Be Murdered By.

To the surprise of the world, Eminem just dropped an album out of nowhere called Music To Be Murdered By. You can stream it here. It came with no forewarning just like Kamikaze in 2018, however in the past couple of months there have been rumours about a megastar putting out an album that many assumed to be Em.

In our exclusive interview with S1 a week back, he mentioned that he’d been working with Em “quite a bit” lately and that the camp is very secretive.

Unfortunately his name does not appear on any of the credits, but many big names do. There are frequent collaborators like Mr. Porter and Dr. Dre (he did as many as 7 songs) and then some producers that will surprise people, like d.a. got that dope and Ricky Racks. Below you can check out the production credits in full.

1) ‘Premonition (Intro)’
Prod. by Dawaun Parker, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Luis Resto & Mark Batson

2) ‘Unaccommodating’ (Feat. Young M.A)
Prod. by Eminem & Tim Suby

3) ‘You Gon’ Learn’ (Feat. Royce 5’9 & White Gold)
Prod. by Eminem, Luis Resto & Royce 5’9

4) ‘Alfred (Interlude)’

Music to Be Murdered By is the eleventh studio album by legendary Detroit rapper Eminem. The surprise album serves as a follow-up to Kamikaze and is the rapper’s first endeavor of 2020. The project is a double-album, including two labeled introductions and one labeled outro.

The double-album was seemingly inspired by Sir Alfred Hitchcock (August 13, 1899 – April 29, 1980), one of the most influential and prominent directors and filmmakers of all time, who also titled his debut 1958 album, Music to Be Murdered By. Throughout the course of Em’s project he references Hitchcock numerous times, including on the secondary cover art, “Alfred (Interlude),” “Little Engine” and “Alfred (Outro).”

The album features 12 artists across eight songs, including a third collaboration with Ed Sheeran, a track with the late Juice WRLD and three tracks with frequent collaborator, Royce da 5'9".

Producers The Alchemist, Andre Brissett, D.A. Doman & 14 more
Writers The Alchemist, Alex Villasana, Anderson .Paak & 48 more
Additional Keyboards Focus…, Fredwreck & Luis Resto
Additional Producer Luis Resto
