For whatever reason France has always had a big infatuation with G-Funk since the 90s, I remember listening to a college radio mixshow during the height of the G-Funk run and hearing a dope ass g-funk instrumental playing and wondering who was about to start rapping cause the beat had that distinct 213/DPG/LBC vibe to it and then all of a sudden this dude starts rapping in french, I was tripped out lol..G-Funk is worldwide tho and its a beautiful thing!

yeah G-Funk and Mobb music have been big in France since their inception. in the 90's there were entire neighborhoods in Greater Paris and Greater Lyon raised on G-Funk. You can ask Daddy V he been to some of them and recorded an album called LA French Connect. I think people were drawn by the musical component, the vibe and the culture. and since G-Funk was the flavor of the day and was mainstream, they were mainstream and some even considered poppish / sellouts. Likewise, in terms of Funk, France has had a very vibrant scene.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to either Reciprok's Libre comme l'air or Alliance Ethnik's respect.

Many French producers are now working with most west coast artist from the 90's : DJ AK, Doggmaster, Sovan (Sovizzle), Makavelik, Cartelsons, Aelpeacha, the touch funk etc.

I could give you references but I'm pretty sure most of you aren't interested because of the French rapping, which I understand.

dope. Makavelik is a very talented cat. I liked his work on Papillon Bandana & Bizzy Bone's album.

Ok, here's a slew of French G-Funk classics or mainstream songs that sold well in the mid and late 90's. One of them is an absolute rip-off of G-Funk Intro.

A good start.

Here's also a few cool songs from west coast rappers produced by French beat makers :

Talking about DJ AK....what's taking him so long to drop the Goldie Loc EP? It's been more than a year he can't put the finishing touch on just 5 songs?!

Last September he dropped the post with the tracklist of that 5-track EP on his FB and he comments he noted that it's in the process of mixing/mastering and was planned for digital-only release in October but never got to releasing it since then. Also, when ppl asked him about CD's, he said that it's planned only as digital release for that moment, so I don't think he was gonna drop that EP in CD format.

MistaLogos

There's a meme for his case  ;D
