"Crippin is mainstream...." (Throwback thread)

How do y'all feel about the commercialism of gangbangin, mainly on hand of the crips? What I am talkin about is how everybody is c-walkin, how people who don't bang say "cuz" and wear blue chucks with blue laces, blue bandanas, etc. etc. EEETTCCC.

As far as c-walkin...I feel where WC and snoop come from when they say quit cripwalkin if u aint a gangbanger. But at the same time, I have yet seen somebody get beat up or stomped out for cripwalkin who wasn't crippin. With the emergence of the clownwalk, it is hard 2 tell who is crip, blood, piru, or clown walkin and most gangbangers won't sit analyzin shit like "he is crip walkin cause he did this with his foot.." they usually dont say shit as long as no bandanas are shown and no gang signs are thrown up.

I donno if anybody here is from Florida or has been 2 Florida...but Cuz and Blood are just regular slang terms....my homeboy's brother from Inglewood NHP came out to my college 4 homecoming and one dude had on blue chucks with blue laces and said "whas up cuz" to us.....boy's brother musta banged on this nigga so hard he was about to run...i had to tell him we were in florida and shit is completely different, then he was like "fuck snoop! fuck wc!! fuck boyz in the hood and colors!!! everybody wanna be a crab and shit now, fuck that!! this shit is serious!" I understood em both...but damn...yeah gangbangin has been commercialized but shit, anything on tv is copied, whether its in movies or rap songs and shit has been that way since tv was created...just happens that it can be deadly to copy shit now.

This pic is the best possible example of this phenomena. Dumb white boys tryin' to act hard, throwin up signs and shit.

But then there's another side to it: the style. "Keepin' it gangsta". Like wearing blue rags (I'm wearin one on my head right now), the chucks and shit like that. IMO, I don't care if someone wears a blue rag on his head if he/she knows what it means in certain circles and doesn't try to be somebody they aren't. I wear a blue rag now and then, I wear khakis, but I sure as hell ain't throwin up no signs or c-walk. I just like the clothes and how they suit me. (But I don't dress to intentionally look like a crip. Don't even mix me up with that shit.)

"Niggas wear flags, 'cause their colors match their clothes, then get caught in the wrong hood 'n get filled up with holes." I guess I'm guilty of that, wearin' a flag. But it ain't a flag to me. To me it's just a blue (or red) rag, something to cover your head with.

And WC said this in XXL (about Snoop's "quit c-walkin' if you ain't a gangbanger" -line): "Basically, Snoop's lettin' e'm know that if cats wanna c-walk, it's cool, but be careful because that dance that I brought to the forefront is nothin' to be mocked. I'm not upset at all if anybody out there is doin' it, but realize that a lot of men died over that dance right there - it's called the crip-walk."

Also in his Wake Up Show appearance before the album came out he said somethin' like (paraphrasing) "I want the whole world to c-walk, but they need to recognize what they're doing."

(Then again, we don't have crips or bloods or none of that around here (meaning my country), so I won't be getting in trouble for my clothes.)

Some people say Snoop made C-Walkin big but in my opinion he didn't have shit to do with it except bin a crip. WC is the first person I ever saw do it on TV. My homeboy who is a crip from Mid City L.A. said that a lot of sets didn't even start c-walkin til WC was doin it live.

(Sidenote: I am watchin the Beautiful video....Snoop looks even skinnier than he did in Baby Boy! Does he really have throat cancer?)

I am lookin at all my old posts, just to see what was goin on back then and see how things have changed, and if I have changed in my opinions and all else...

I had to re-up this one, because I am startin to notice that Bloods are startin to become more mainstream now. It seems like it's mainly because of Game and Diplomats, but I am just seein a lot more people emulate the blood culture nowadays then I used to a few years ago.
