HOLLYWOOD, CA – Ice Cube has touted a fourth Friday film for years but per a new report from The Wall Street Journal details how much the movie is far from beginning production — let alone happening in general.

The cold war is said to have started in 2012 when Warner Bros agreed to develop Last Friday for $11 million but when Ice Cube submitted a first draft involving a prison and an updated version that was also denied, he felt the studio was moving methodically in efforts to prevent filming from taking place.

Lawyers for the N.W.A legend accused Warner Bros. of having a “poor steward” for the ghetto-fab franchise and even accused them of lacking racial clarity, writing in a letter that the Friday films were “habitually underfunded in comparison with projects featuring white casts and creative teams.”

The 1995 first Friday film grossed $121.5 million at the box office on just a budget of $24.5 million. Its predecessors — 2000’s Next Friday and 2002’s Friday After Next also won big in theaters with relatively small budgets: a $59.8 million return on a $11 million budget for Next Friday and $33.5 million earnings on just a $10 million for the Christmas-tinged Friday After Next.

Question is why he can't take it to another studio like Netflix or something.

Almost consistent diminishing returns and a 20 year gap but he's blaming it on race...

It's really just bad business at a young age that's come back to bite him in the ass, which surprises me since he had enough of a brain not sign Heller's contract.

dropped the ball by not doing it before witherspoon and lister passed ..

if he got 11 mil for next friday and friday after next, duno why he turned it down

also, didn’t realize the og friday cost so much. doesn’t look like it tbh.

He should put down 11 million himself and make the movie. Considering the numbers he could easily double his money

How the hell was the budget for the first one 24.5 million? I'm pretty sure that's a typo and the budget was under 5 mill.

They lost two of the main cast members and the first one came out when I was just out of high school, who the fuck cares about sequel *now* after all these years when the last thing was straight garbage and made less than a 1/3rd what the first one did. Cube can't put up 10 mill of his own money or find some investors to pool their money to finance it themselves? He's a wealthy guy. If he thinks he's got such a great idea and script for a studio to take that risk, he should produce it himself. Not everything is about race. For fuck's sake. The studio wants a guaranteed return on their investment like anyone else would, including Cube. Those numbers aren't great and the more time passes and the more cast members drop out or die off the less chance it will recoup that $$$$ and make a profit.

I don't understand why another movie company hasn't copped this like Netflix did with Top Boy and Coming to America and Beverly Hills Cop.

Rush Hour 4 is listed as announced on IMDB maybe Chris Tucker ran out of money. Last Friday wouldn't make sense without Chris Tucker maybe Cube needs the extra cash just to get Tucker on board cause he's expensive as fuck.

That website is trash. Rush Hour 4 is in development and seemingly headed nowhere. They are quick to add movies but never remove them. The 21 jump street cross overs are likely on there.

Because he sold the franchise to Warner Bros, doofus
STRUGGLING TO KEEP IT REAL IN A WORLD FULL OF FAKES

How hard up for ideas must Cube and Pooh be to not just ditch the whole franchise and run with somethin new
I might start working on a script called Saturday and write a bunch of bullshit about what happens after Friday

Are you brain injured? The new company buys it from Warner

soopa-man

They don’t want to make the movie and own the rights. They don’t want to give the movie to cube to shop and sell or produce it him self “hence the free friday”
Campaign he is on.  They own it and dont want to do any thing with it period, including selling it to him.
