Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Real bias.    ::) ::)

Everyone knows the most talent MCs come from the east.  Not that there are some mistakes (Wyclef Jean - The Ecleftic: Two Sides To A Book, Made Men - Classic Limited Edition & Lil' Kim - La Bella Mafia).  But you have to expect the east to have better ratings overall than the west.  And they reviewed versions of Nas' I Am, Mobb Deep's Murda Muzik, Black Rob's Life Story, Ghostface Killah's Bulletproof Wallets, etc. too early and they weren't the versions that were released to the public.

And you can add Mobb Deep - Murda Muzik (4 1/2 Mics)

I agree that most of those East Coast albums deserve their ratings and more classic shit comes from the East than any where else but there are almost 10 albums that mics were handed to them whereas a West Coast album has to be damn near classic to get a high rating and even if it does eg. Doggystyle they still give it a lesser rating than it deserves.

Don't deserve what they got original recording or not (I have bought or downloaded all of them):
Jay-Z - Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life
Nas - I Am... The Autobiography
Made Men - Classic Limited Edition
Black Rob - Life Story
Beanie Sigel - The Truth
Jay-Z - The Dynasty Roc La Familia
Wyclef Jean - The Ecleftic: Two Sides To A Book
Ghostface Killah - Bulletproof Wallets
Lil' Kim - La Bella Mafia

I'm done bitching and whining. Peace.

hey TNP are you gonna do this? the only one i really wanna read now is Paris - The Devil Made Me Do It. I wanna see how they could give that 3 Mics.

THE DOC, No One Can Do it Better is on the 5 Mic list. But you people need to stop crying just because your whole G-Funk collection didn't get 5 mics or Roscoe 4 mics or X-Zibit 4.5. The Source is an east coast publication and east has the best rap it is what it is.

4 1/2 mics
Westside Connection - Bow Down

The thing is, if The Source has THAT much of a West Coast bias, why did they give 4 1/2 mic rating to an album that disses the shit outta them ("All the Critics in New York")?  Shit, I've never thought that "Bow Down" is a 4 1/2 mic album.

This isn't to say they ain't biased - the reviews of Benzino/Made Men albums obviously prove otherwise - but generally speaking, cats gotta admit that the East Coast produces far more intelligent, quality hip-hop than the West.  The 2Pac and "Doggystyle" ratings are the only ones that immediately spring to mind which I disagree with.

Here are some other west coast album ratings that I remember.

Daz Dillnger - Retaliation, Revenge and Get Back =  4 mics
Mack 10 - The Recipe = 4 mics
Yukmouth - Thugged Out The Albulation = 3 1/2 mics
