How Bad Will Democrats Lose The Next US Election?
« on: July 08, 2003, 06:38:01 PM »
Of course this assumes it's just strictly democrats and republicans.  I'm talking electoral votes, though, they'll probably all go dem or republican.  I'm gonna vote 60/40, I think he'll win pretty easily, but with the youth in america being more liberal, I doubt it'll be a huge landslide.

Some past results:

2000:

Bush - 271 - 50.4% - Republican
Gore - 266 - 49.4%

Gore actually was the winner of the popular vote.

1996:

Bill Clinton - 379 - 70.4% - Democrat
Robert Dole - 159 - 29.6%

Clinton pounded him.

1992:

Bill Clinton - 370 - 68.8% - Democrat
George Bush - (incumbent president) - 168 -31.2%

Clinton pounded him.

1988:

George Bush, Sr. - 426 - 79.2% - Republican
Michael Dukkakis - 111 - 20.6%

Bush Sr., coming off 8 years as V.P., destroyed Dukkakis.

1984:

Ronald Reagan - 525 - 97.6% - Republican
Walter Mondale - 13 - 2.4%

Reagan equaled god to most of America after his first term, so this was his second term election, and he basically humiliated Mondale he beat him so bad.

1980:

Ronald Reagan - 489 - 90.9% - Republican
Jimmy Carter (incumbent president) - 49 - 9.1%

A lot of people say that Carter was perceived as being unintelligent, since he was from the south.  Of course there was a ton going on at the time that didn't make it very easy for him, either.

1976:

Jimmy Carter - 297 - 55.2% - Democrat
Gerald Ford - (incumbent president) - 240 - 44.6%

Close one...

1972:

Richard Nixon - 520 - 96.6% - Republican
George McGovern - 17 - 3.2%

1968:

Richard Nixon - 301 - 55.9%
Hubert Humphrey - 191 - 35.5%

This is the one you need to be learnin' from..

See after Gulf war I, Bush senior's personal approval rating was even higher than his son's was after the latest one.  (A phenomenal 81% I believe.)  A year later he got his ugly ass pounded and destroyed.  Why?
Americans traditionally vote, always have and always will, on the economy.  (Clinton:"It's the economy, stupid.")

The Republican tactics for the 2004 election will be to focus on Bush the leader (roll pics of him in his army uniform etc.).  They will stay the away from corporate fraud (the Democrats will take him there) (George's daddy's friends stealing pensions), and the generally poor state of the economy.

Clinton murdered Bush I.  However, Clinton is the most charismatic US politician of all time, he is the master of presentation.  The Democrats will not have a candidate as good as him.  But Clinton whipped arse, they only need to win by 1 college vote.

Bush's ratings have dropped to a (still high) 60%.  However, latest polling reveals that while many people are pleasantly suprised by Bush, only 27% would be SURE to vote Bush in 2004.

I am worried about Howard Dean running, because if he gets the nomination, the Republicans will murder him with 'extremist' propaganda.  But I doubt Dean will get it, I predict John Kerry will get it. (Although, Hillary still has time to throw her hat in, but v. unlikely).

I predict a narrow win in 2004 for the Democrats.

THE BIGGEST WIN EVER I THINK.  IRONICALLY, THE THINGS NIXON GOT UP TO IN TRYING TO WIN THAT ELECTION GOT HIM KICKED OUT 2 YEARS LATER.

1968:

Richard Nixon - 301 - 55.9%
Hubert Humphrey - 191 - 35.5%

RFK WOULD HAVE BEATEN NIXON LIKE HIS BROTHER DID IN '60.

BTW the guy I wanna go against Bush is John Edwards, and he's got a real chance at the nomination as well.

Check this real talk out, son of a poor mill worker:

"President Bush honors and respects only wealth. … He wants to be certain that those who have it keep it. … He comes from a world where wealth is largely inherited, not earned. That is not the world I come from. … The difference between George Bush and John Edwards is, while he honors and respects only wealth, I honor and respect hard work. I honor and respect responsibility. I believe in opportunity. He's about building barriers and closing doors; I'm about exactly the opposite. I want to knock barriers down. I want to open doors.

"Bush has shown a pattern of striving to eliminate the taxation on wealth and the income on wealth. … He wants to see the estate tax gone; he wants to see the tax on capital gains gone; he wants to see the tax on dividends gone. … The president wants to shift the tax burden in America from wealth and income on wealth—people who sit at home and get their statements every month from their investments and see how much money they've made—to people like my father. … He wants working people to carry the tax burden."

"In America, do we still believe that the son of a mill worker can go toe to toe with the son of a president? I do" "

Assuming he's not impeached and Hillary doesn't run against him, and neither does John Edwards, and John McCain doesn't foment rebellion (as he surely will)...he'll win 60/40, and that's taking into account electoral fraud.

^^ That's not answering the question.

How much will the democrats lose by in 2004?  You were kinda insinuating they'll win.
