Well on sohh.com they have a quote from his manager saying it's true and he's looking for a new label.

Yeah I think I'm cryin' a bit too...

[edit]

Just read the bit on SOHH and I'm bummed... Hopefully they'll put the Dre cuts on the new LP though. All this wait - and nothing happens. A huge let-down from Dre, whether or not it was his decision/fault or not. Get us all hyped up, go around saying the album is FINALLY coming - and then kill our hope with one swift strike. Fuck this shit.

I'd love to see that, but it's kinda wishful thinking  :-\

That would be so clever and evil at the same time it would be the marketing stunt of the decade...

if its true.. expect a 'leak' from interscope soon...

they'd rather save face by trying to sabotage sales elsewhere.. so they can then turn around and see 'see we did the right thing'  ;)

i just think this came out of nowhere thats why im saying what im saying cause it seemed like we were soooooooooooo close to acctually seeing this and then some bullshit like this happens? i just think if there was a prob with it they would just go back and fix the lil prob........ i dont think ra and dre would go this far and then just be like fuck it and drop it....no fuckin way.....especially with the words that have been comin out of rakims mouth recently that its almost done and shit like that and its gonna be released this summer and shit like that you know what im saying.....and then out of nowhere he is off of aftermath????? i just dont really think its true.....and im gonna wait to a major site puts the news up or a major publication cause only then will we really get a bigger feeling for it....but who knows it could be true.... :'( i just hope it isnt....and im kinda thinking it isnt....but it could be just wishful thinkin on my part like someone said :-\ lets see what happens

I don't know what to think of this.

Perhaps it is a publicity stunt. I don't imagine negotiating your way out of a contract is done in a few days, so I can't see why there would have been so much publicity in the past weeks when the labels knew the relationship was over.

At the same time, it's an odd publicity stunt if it is - never heard of anyone promoting their upcoming record by pretending they've left the label.  ???

I dunno. I've said for the past few months that I didn't think the record would ever drop, so I guess I'll stay with that gut feeling. Still, sad news if that's right.

Didn't he say in a interview that Interscope were trying to make him do a more gangsta album? I think he just got fed up with having to do what Jimmy Iovine wanted with this album, and would much rather release a real Rakim record on another label than have to go gangsta on Aftermath. In a way I think this could be good, because Ra is going to want to prove Interscope wrong so badly that the actual album that he releases on whichever label he goes to will end up being a straight classic.
