MILAN - The San Siro will play host to an Inter vs. AC Milan derby on Sunday 1 September in remembrance of the disaster at Linate airport that claimed the lives of 118 people on 8 October, 2001.

After the tragedy, Inter president Massimo Moratti and AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani punctually responded to the committee of relatives of the victims, offering their availability to organise a date for the commemorative match.

The first Sunday of September will therefore see the likes of Rivaldo, Vieri , Cannavaro and Maldini on the pitch for a clash that will provide a taste of what is to come in Milan derbies this season.

Half of the gate receipts will go to Milan City Council for sporting solidarity initiatives, while Inter and AC Milan will give the other 50% to the families of the victims.
