"C-Walk: It's a way of livin" - L.A. Review
« on: July 31, 2003, 11:18:26 AM »
I recently purchased the DVD from CJ Mac, "C-Walk: It's a way of livin" and bein that I probably know more than most on this board about what is goin on in the video, I figured I'd make a review of it.

The main debate of this video is if the C-Walk is a dance or not, and showin how real crips feel about the commercialism of the walk, and of gangbangin as a whole. Snoop and Warren G say a lil bit on here, but nothin special..one scene with snoop, Don magic juan, cj mack, and some dude from 60s is in the studio, and they are jus yappin. Warren G has a small clip but it's not too much. WC is on here quite a bit, especially since he is the one who basically made the walk mainstream.
For the clips of walkin, this is the most i have EVER seen in one movie, DVD, video, etc. etc. and I have a feeling some crips from L.A. may be mad that these clips are on video. Right now, most people from outside of L.A. DO NOT know how to walk, and thas how many of the crips want it to be, but I have a feeling that when this DVD gets into people's hands around the country, people who kno nothin about crippin will ignore all of the commentary on the video, but teach themselves to walk.
They show the clown walk, and some of the clowns dances, which is basically a new dance that grew from the c-walk, but it is not gang affiliated and doesn't have any consequences as C-Walkin does. The dudes in here are dope as hell doin the clown walk...up there with some of the best that I have seen. As for the crip-walkin scenes, they show almost every version of the c-walk that I have seen.
Now the crips who are in this video are a lil bit tooo hyped up, but most of em are talkin real. The way that many crips feel about the walk is that they don't wanna see non-affiliates doin it, and that consequences happen to those who do it, and that it's not only a dance but it is real life, etc. etc. basically tryin to scare those who know nothin about crippin out of doin the c-walk. Now the truth is that I have NEVER seen somethin happen when somebody is c-walkin...whether it was at a house party, club party, or on the streets. I don't doubt that people have been jumped over the walk, but jus bein honest, I think they put extras on it just so people who kno nothin about it won't think about walkin.
Some of the scenes showin crips aren't really of substance, but they make sense to have them in the video. THey show the Broadway gangsta crips, and the Harlem 30 criplets, who are basically jus talkin shit about crippin and how hard they are.
For what this DVD is, I can't see it bein any better. For those who just really wanna learn the c-walk, regardless of the background info given in the video, they will love this video. Even people like me, who always see people doin the clown walk but never learned it, we will like this video jus because of the clown walkin scenes. I like the fact that at the end, CJ Mack speaks real about the harsh realities of gangbangin, and how it's no joke...but it jus trips me out that thru the main part of the video, he is talkin super hard, but at the end, he speaks proper as if he is speakin to adults..no problem with that though it is jus funny.

Overall, I'd give this DVD a 9 out of 10...a must have for any west coast fanatics. Just make sure none of ya blood homeboys see it, because they might take that shit and crush it, LOL.

LOL, I feel u tho. Basically, CJ Mack wasn't really sayin "don't do it" as the other "superhard" crips were, but at the same time, they were all takin it outta context. Bein real, they know crippin is nothin good or positive, so bein logical, I'd rather somebody c-walk who knows nothin about it, than for them to actually be a crip, jus because it's nothin to be proud of when u get to the real world, if u make it.

i dunno about your statement about real peoples not feelin it. CJ ,Keitarock  and alot of other real streets cats who were all involved in this project  did this DVD to educate people more then anything else not for the money or commercializm of the actual c walk. Also Big Boy from 106 was feelin the DVD that much he called CJ Mack personally to give him props on the DVD and he even took it with him to Japan to promote on his recent trip there

I don't mean it like that...I know that the people involved feel it. What I am saying is that some crips may not like the fact that the real cripwalk is shown in its entirety on this DVD, and that people all over the world will know how to REALLY do it now. Before, nobody outside of L.A. or the West knew how to do the real walk, they used to just do spinoffs of what they saw on TV. As far as the education, yeah they all felt that and thas why they support it and were down with it. I am just speakin of the fact that in a few months, the REAL shit will be all over the net, because right now, all that shit on Kazaa is just fake spinoffs of the real walk.

I dont understand why people over in other citys wanna learn this? they do know that crips used to c walk when another rival gang member was shot as a victory, thats probably why them cripz dont wana see white kids out there doin it n shit.

Well it's a few reasons. I don't crip walk, i clown walk, but whenever I go outta town, I see people tryin to do the C-Walk, and when I bust on em all doin the clown walk, they are amazed, and think it is the dopest dance in the world. Now usually they'll think it's the c-walk that I'm doin but I'll tell em it's the clown walk, but they still will be like "oh for real, well man could u teach me?" The thing about it is that people outside of CA don't like the c-walk just because crips do it, but the fact is it is a dope "dance" if u wanna call it a dance, and it looks better than most dances that u see people doin around the country.
