BET To Air The 2003 Source Awards
« on: August 23, 2003, 06:46:43 PM »
America's Black video and entertainment network will be making its riskiest move since merging with media giant Viacom in 2000. BET is throwing the dice to air The 2003 Source Hip-Hop Music Awards this November.......

Founded in 1994 in New York by the magazine of the same name, The Source Awards have consistently ranked high ratings with teen and young adult television watchers. The Awards set unprecedented ratings for UPN in '99, '00 and '01 - ranking #1 for teens and adults ages 18-34 amd The Source Awards 2000 was the highest-rated show among black teens.

But part of the show's popular appeal through the years can be attributed to the circus-like mayhem that has come to be associated with its trademark. The first annual event featured Tupac making an impromptu performance during A Tribe Called Quest's acceptance speech. The following year, Suge Knight, Snoop and Death Row commandeered the stage to take a shot a Puff Daddy and the east coast. The 2000 show was a train wreck that was halted after violent fights broke out all over the arena, with various artists from Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony to Mobb Deep to Death Row to The Outlawz to Q-tip all at some point involved in altercations. With only three awards presented and the network losing millions in ad revenue, management at The Source said, "We regret what went on this evening and we are deeply embarrassed by it." And even though The Source's Awards 2001 show was peaceful, the after party was a different story. According to various reports, an incident left three men stabbed outside the Level nightclub in Miami.

Despite the drama, BET President and Chief Operating Officer Debra Lee says, "BET is very pleased to televise the 2003 Source Awards." This optimistic sentiment is mirrored by Source founder, Dave Mays. "This year's Awards will feature the artists and music that make Hip-Hop the most vital force for today's youth. We're proud to partner with BET, a network with a strong commitment to hip-hop, for what will be Hip-Hop's biggest event ever."

The 2003 Awards will return to Miami on October 13th, capping a weekend of activities celebrating the accomplishments and culture of Hip-Hop. The Source Awards Weekend 2003 will also include a Family Day Concert at Bayfront Park and Amphitheatre in Miami and The Source Youth Foundation's Hip-Hop Image Awards Dinner and Gala, honoring esteemed members of the Hip-Hop community who have demonstrated a commitment to community service.

The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2003, will air in the middle of TV Sweeps on Tuesday, November 4th during prime time at 8:00 pm (ET/PT).

what all went down at the 2000 one?

E-40 got his $150,000 Sick-Wit-It chain jacked, DJ Quik got his ass kicked by some 5/0, some other shit probably went down too but i cant remember........

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.
