Cypress Hill - Black Sunday
« on: September 06, 2003, 05:22:03 AM »
bored.... so i went thru the album reviews request n found this....

1 - I Wanna Get High - Nice, mellow, laidback track. I dont like B. Real trying to sing tho. Lyrics are good, cool flow. Nice song to get smashed to. I'm a sucker for weed songs.... 4.5/5
2 - I Ain't Goin Out Like That - Beat sounds cool, nice lil screechy guitar samples. Lyrics are good as well. 4/5
3 - Insane In The Brain - This is the song you automatically think of when someone says Cypress Hill, and its not hard to see why. Beat is bangin, the lyrics are cool. The hook on this gets stuck in your head. 5/5
4 - When The Shit Goes Down - A sorta laidback song, but still fast enough to cruise to. Lyrics are good. Overall not a bad track. 3.75/5
5 - Lick A Shot - Fuck yeah! Pump-up shit! This sorta song gets your blood running fast. Beat is fast, bass on it is phat. Lyrics and flow are dope on this track. One of my favourites. 5/5
6 - Cock The Hammer - Real grimey beat, which makes it good that Sen Dog has the opening verse coz it keeps you into it. Lyrics are cool as they normally are. Nice track. 4/5
7 - Lock Down - this is just an interlude. Just a mellow beat playin for a minute. No rating.
8 - 3 Lil' Putos - The beat on this is a lil weird and hard to like when you're not off your nut. Lyrics are good, flows nice with the beat. Its just too weird for my liking, being not stoned right now. 2.75/5
9 - Legalize It - Skit... guess what its about. No rating.
10 - Hits From The Bong - Gotta love them weed songs. Beat is dope on this, really matches the whole weed theme of the lyrics. Lyrics are pretty clever on this one. Pretty nice shit. 4.5/5
11 - What Go Around Come Around - Beat on this is an abstract one, the screechy sorta samples match B. Real's voice. In saying that, Sen Dog's voice doesnt really match this. Iffy track. 3/5
12 - A To The K - I couldn't really like this track, i thought it would grow on me but i was wrong. It's a weird beat, and the hook makes it sound even weirder. Lyrics are alright tho. Average. 2.5/5
13 - Hand On The Glock - More screechy samples. This track took a while for me to catch onto it. Hook is cool on this one. Sen Dog's voice actually sounded good with this beat. Not bad. 3.5/5
14 - Break 'Em Off Some - Oh yeah, love this track. Beat is high tempo yet mellow at the same time, it must be the piano sounds and shit. Lyrics are good. Dunno what it is about this track, but you can't help but like it. 4.5/5

OVERALL: 4.5/5
Dope ass album, pick it up if you haven't already! A few average songs, but if you overlook them, its a fuckin good album.

BEWARE! If you hate high-pitched voices, stay the fuck away from this album. B. Real will annoy the fuck out of you, and so will the screechy samples that accompany the beats.

im off to blaze now, peace out 8)

kick ass album

I was just a kid when I got this - fucking loved it. Agree with most of the review, but I thought 'A to tha K' was dope. Funny thing is that from people mentioning 'Break 'Em Off Something', I remember loving the tune, but haven't got the slightest memory whatsoever of how it went.

Must be the drink. Might have to dig the old cassette out soon.
