Is lennox lewis one of tha all-time greats
« on: June 16, 2002, 09:38:27 AM »
a couple of people have said yes in other topics,  i say hell no.  Why cuz he beat an old evander holyfield,  why b/c he beat a washed up mike tyson,  lets see lewis fight pre robin givens tyson.  He got knocked out by whats his name ( i know his name but have no clue on how to spell it).  Granted he lewis did come back to beat him in there next fight.  When people talk about tha all time greats i dont think he will get mentioned,  hell i think tyson would get mentioned more than him.

He was one of the greatest even before the fight with Tyson, IMO. Now it's official. What does he have to do more? To destroy Holyfield and Tyson aint enought? To be the champ aint enought?

Does he have to be a thug and an american to be a great?

BTW this match showed how Lennox is a great boxer, while Tyson is (was) just maybe the greatest animal to boxe ever! There's a little difference. Both will be remembered, no doubts. Lennox is less spectacular, but he's a giant with probably the best tecnique i've ever seen for a black man of his size. The match with Holyfield and Tyson are two jewels of tecnique.

to an extent i agree with the homie above ^^

but what Tom says is true, Lewis hasnt defined himself yet

theres no denying his techniec and skill, but i feel he hasnt proven himself as a Great yet

he got rocked by Rahman and McCall, he still needs to command respect on a wholescale level

"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

He was before he fighted Tyson.  That Tyson fight just put the cream on the cake.  The answer to the question is YES

Lennox was world champ longe before he beat Holyfield

He's not on the level of Ali, Louis, Marciano, Frazier or Tyson - but he's definitely in the top 10

TYSON was in his best moment to fight, he trained so hard for this Lewis Tyson fight, he challenged other good fighters before this fight, YEA RIGHT!!! GIve me a break, he beat a sorry ass Tyson who is worth nothing. and old ass Holyfield who also lost to some cuban becoming the first hispanic heavyweight champ.  Very impressive to me.  And anyways heavyweight boxin is not that good.  Heavyweight boxing was only good in the Ali ERA

My personal top 10 heavyweight's of all-time...
Going by tapes...& my personal style.

1.Joe Louis
2.Muhamed Ali/Cassius clay
3.Jack Dempsy
4.Evander Holyfield
5.Larry Holmes
6.Rocky Marciano
7.George Foreman
8.Joe Fraizer
9.Lennox Lewis
10.Mike Tyson

Yeah I would say Lewis is in the top 10 great's of all time.
But the list could and would have changed had certain fighter's not lost alot of fighting time during their career.
Both Tyson & ALi would have been higher up in the list.
I'll always place Holmes over Marciano, cause of the fighting style.
Lewis being knocked out by sub-par fighter's also kill's his higher spot.

But it's all Opinion's....so
But he makes my top ten and prob: everyone else's...

Peace

Here's another question:

If he was American, and not Canadian/British, would he be considered an all time great by more people?
