...I have been wondering this for a while now. I asked this once but I forget what kind of an answer I got. If your unsure about downloading music, look back a few days to when someone posted something about "PeerGuardian". Its supposed to stop RIAA from looking at what ur downloading/downloaded.

I have also wondered if its safe to download mixtapes, since they arent an actual album put out by a label.

I have also wondered if its safe to download mixtapes, since they arent an actual album put out by a label.

Not the album, but the songs are all owned by a company. Most companies nowadays know mixtapes are great promotion & don't trip much.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

mIRC is the safest place to download music from.
Much due to 2 things:

1: The ripper-group, e.g. WCR, ESC, RNS etc. are competing to release the most, the best, and the highest possible quality rips.. bundling them with a virus or worm would mean instant bad credibility for a rip-group.
Plus, the rips would get "nuked", meaning that someone kills the release before it hits mIRC. "Nuking" is most used when there's duplicate albums, or the rip doesn't satisfy quality standards.

2: The mp3-channels are also competing to release the best and most releases..
And these channels are also constantly banning spammers/virus-senders from the channel.

The only way to get a virus off mIRC, is if somebody sends it to you..
Usually 1 in 1000 people will try to send you something, might even fewer..
As long as you don't accept anything you have not asked for, you're almost guaranteed to stay virus-free.

So far end users should be pretty safe, but who knows how long that will last

10.000 + people are downloading music off mIRC..
230.000.000 ++ people are downloading off Kazaa.. guess who they'll go for..

The masses or the techie nerds on shells/behind firewalls on mIRC.. ??
I would try the 230 MILLION on Kazaa first.. would be like hunting in a farm..
