virus query - please help!
« on: September 14, 2003, 10:24:55 AM »
Anyone here know anything about viruses? Day before yesterday I was on the net and the board slowed right up and - more distressingly - all pictures have been replaced with the dreaded 'red cross' box. This is happening on every website I go to. Right now I can't see any of the smilies above the message box as I type, or even the buttons you click to put stuff in italics and whatnot.

I ran a virus check and it found TROJ_RSLOCAL.A, which had infected C:\WINDOWS\WINLOGON.EXE. On the net it says the virus saves JPEGS onto the harddrive, which presumably explains why I can't see any pictures.

On the second scan my program quarentined the infected file and I deleted it, but still can't see any pictures - can anyone please, please, please tell me what more I need to do?!

Try a rollback.. to before the machine was infected.
If you got ME or XP, that should be pretty easy.

Alternatively, try reinstalling Netscape, Mozilla, Opera.. (I hope for your sake you don't use IE)

Btw, you should set the anti-virus to "auto-protect".. that would have prevented it in the first place.
