i'll probably vote for it i guess, but it's a stupid proposition. all it's doing is asking for your race/ethinicity . the only flaw i can think of is people putting something their not to downgrade or upgrade the stats on a race if it's on a test (sat 9, cat tests, ect)

This ranks right up there with the Patriot Act and the Emancipation Proclamation as the biggest pile of bullshit.

Patriot Act.... give up your freedom for security... security of freedom that is.... so basically we're giving up our freedoms in order so they can protect the freedoms they just took from us.... We're sooo smart ::)

Emancipation Proclamation.... after the Confederate states seceded from the Union, Lincoln proclaimed all slaves in those states FREE...yet he allowed slavery in the border states so that he wouldn't lose their support... so how many slaves did this proclamation free? ZERO...  BTW him eliminating slaves in the Confederacy would be like Bush raising taxes in Canada...

Yes, YOU were talking out of your ass. Proposition 54 prohibits the classificaton by race, and your DUMBASS says:
"i'll probably vote for it i guess, but it's a stupid proposition. all it's doing is asking for your race/ethinicity"
Just another example of where you talk about something you have no idea about. Please stop embarassing yourself, and from now on if you don't have a clue, just keep quiet.
Now that I proved you incorrect and proved that in fact you were talking out of your ass, prove to me that I have made an incorrect statement.
I have said that the Patriot Act takes away some of our freedoms, which everyone will agree with me it is doing. Even the people who initially voted in favor of it, now, after reading through it and understanding what it's actually intending, want to reverse their decision.
The Emancipation Proclamation of 1763 stated that slavery was prohibited in the seceded states, not in the Union border-states. Since the Confederacy had its own government, do you think they paid any attention to Lincoln's law? No slaves were freed in the Confederacy, and slavery continued in the border states. That means that technically ZERO slaves were freed.

Now sit down and realize that you've been schooled.

I love cali, but there are some WIERD laws out there...

can't smoke cigarettes but wants to legalize "medicinal" pot?
can't get a lap dance but has the biggest porn industry in the world?

what's next; can't buy alcohol but can drive with no speed limits?

As far as prop 54 goes, I don't know too much about it. Could somebody explain the pros/cons to it?

Seems very sensible to me.

Both Canada and Britain are funding medical marijuana.  And both countries will soon provide it on their health services.

Proposition 54 says that:

“The state shall not classify any individual by race, ethnicity, color or national origin in the operation of public education, public contracting or public employment.”

Endorsers claim that it will save the state budget money. They claim that government is forbidden to discriminate against or grant special treatment to any citizen based on race, so they say that government should  never and has no reason to ask people for their race.

PROS: government saves some money; no more checking boxes for your race

EFFECTS ON HEALTHCARE:
Information enables public health professionals to target life-saving programs to those who have the greatest risks, those who can benefit the most. We use statistical analyses of such information to track health problems, identify who is most affected by them, and to develop strategies and programs to stop the spread of disease, reduce death rates and improve the health of all communities. Our clinics are successful because we utilize data by race and ethnicity to develop specific programs to meet the varying needs of each community no matter the race or ethnicity.
The California Medical Association, California Nurses Association, California Primary Care Association, American Cancer Society, California Association of Health Plans, Kaiser Permanente and the UCLA School of Public Health denounce the initiative's so-called medical exemption, which they called dangerously misleading.

EFFECTS ON EDUCATION:
Under Prop 54, we will only be able to know that Latino and African Americans get lower test scores, graduate from high school at lower rates, and are underrepresented at the University of California. However, Prop 54 will forbid us to know anything about why. We will not be able to monitor whether students are provided or denied qualified teachers, decent school facilities, solid academic coursework, extra support programs, or the chance to prepare for college. We will not know whether school discipline practices are used fairly or unfairly, or whether suspensions and expulsions are keeping struggling students of color out of school. We willnot know whether college admissions practices are fair, or whether all groups of students have access to student services, financial aid, and many other programs in higher education.
Why does this matter? Without complete information and good research, policymakers, educators, and the public will not know why we have such pervasive racial gaps in school achievement and college-going rates. Even worse, without this information, we cannot fix the problems that perpetuate the gaps. Under Prop 54, the policymakers and educators will have to guess about which policies to revise and which services to provide.

Prop 54 eliminates the question of race, and you say "all its doing is asking for race/ethinicity". So, we're saying the complete opposite. I rest my case, you're an idiot.

Everyone should vote for Prop 54. It isn't the governments business what race anyone is.
