how weird i got a speech paper due monday in my speech class.

anyways man i've learned to just let it flow , just go on with whatever you have to say/feel you need to say and that should be enought. when you concentrate on structures and stuff it only derails you from your topic

as far as what kind of speech it is, write it as an informative.....tell what you do and how you do it, it should be easier to write and sound a lot better to, a title really doesn't mean jack shit

The problem with speeches is that a lot of people have short attention spans (we're the fucking MTV generation). That means people can't concentrate on just talking.

Try to show a few slides with shit like graphs and diagrams on, or just have key points you're making on an overhead projector - make it more of a presentation than just a speech. If you can, hand out some photocopies of stuff for people to look at. It all makes people remember what it'sabout more than just talking at them for 20 minutes does.

These days ppl. get bored by formal speeches and as somone said ppl'ss attention sapn is getting shorter by the day...

SO keep ur speeches informal and funny and try to make it interactive.. in the sense put some questions in betwween which 'll make  the audience give a thought abt what ur saying.. otherwise they 'll fell like a buncha vegetables and start losin interest...

I'm kinda good at speeches...keep em short , and simple , don't repeat yourself , except in the conclusion and even then don't go into details just the necessary ,unless u have a strong finish like a quote or a dope line u came up with..and yeah don't pay attention to structure as much as the style of writing.
oh and it doesn't hurt if u give a couple of ur friends a copy of ur speech and have them clap or laugh at certain lines if the speech doesn't go well with the class..also don't take it too seriously , throw in a couple of jokes when the oportunity is there

just because something has to have information in it doesn't mean it has to be boring,u can be artistic ,talk about reppin ur community and not forgetting them because they are the reason ur there...u know what i mean

AND ABOVE ALL!!!!!!! DELIVERY,DELIVERY,DELIVERY!!!! if u sound like a guy who's been kicked in the balls u won't get people's attention even if u've written the best shit ever... but if u sound sure of yourself and ur delivery is good then u'll kick some major ass... ;D

hope this helps

EXACTLY.  Attention spans might be shorter, but a GOOD speaker doesn't have that problem.

You obviously are really into music, Rod.  So you shouldn't have any problem speaking passionately about it.  Ever noticed when things were REALLY boring, the speaker obviously was just reading, or was just reciting something they didn't feel?  If you give your speech on music (or a recording company), you won't have that problem.

The way to lay the speech out is like this

Think about the topic, and the purpose.  You're supposed to "inform" somebody how to run a successful record company.

Get a little sheet of paper, and jot down the highlights of what you think the parts of a successful record company are.  Break it down.

Mine would look like this, but yours will be different.

 - How to run a successful recording company -

There's 3 parts to that (always try to have 3 or so, it works good)
A - You need talented artists
B - You need good distribution
C - You need to have a good sense of what is good music

(or whatever, I'm just throwing out what pops in my mind)

Next, take each of those, and break those down into some points you need to talk about

A - You need talented artists
   1. - Artists need to be different, something that isn't everywhere
   2. - Artists need to be able to relate with the audience
   3. - Artists need to be responsible adults, who will work hard
   4. - Artists need to be someone the record company can get along with, and work well with

B - You need good distribution
   1. - Distribution is essential to getting the product placed in the customers hands
   2. - Good distribution is multi-faceted
      a. - Has a wide 'distribution' area
      b. - Are easy to work with
      c. - Offer a credit system on units shipped (or whatever, I'm making this up)
   3. - Good distribution can get you into key accounts

C - You need to have a good sense of what makes good music
   1. It needs to be music that you yourself are interested in
   2. - You need to be able to discern talent from average
   3. - You need to be able to recognize the work ethic in people BEFORE you hire them

ETC. ETC>

After you get a little outline written down, just get out a pad, and start writing.  Look at your outline, and flesh out each point.  Like , for instance,

"A - You need talented artists
   1. - Artists need to be different, something that isn't everywhere"

Turns into:

"A successful record company first and formost needs talented artists.  No matter how well a record company is ran, music is about talent, and without a talented musician, you aren't going to be able to sell the records that you need to sell to be successful.
One thing a record company needs to recognize in an artist is whether or not they are just a carbon copy of another artist that is out, or if they have something original someone will want to pay money to hear.  A good example of this is, people would much rather hear Eminem perform a song, than a guy dressed exactly like Eminem, imitating his style.  In the 60's, Charles Manson attempted to get signed to several record companies, but he was rejected by all of them, because his music was an imitation of the beatles, and sounded too similar to be successful.  It wasn't original.  "

See, you can turn 1 friekin' sentence into a paragraph.  If you make an outline, and then do this, you'll blow the paper out of the water, and when you're done, it'll all be organized.

A trick, too, is to put your STRONGEST of the 3 points last.  Talk about it last, and put your weakest of the three points second.  That way, the speech will end on a strong note, and it'll make a good impression.  Good luck.

it shouldn't be how to run a record company, it should just be an informative speech on a record company.

how it is ran
what goes on
the good the bad and the ugly
examples:  suge fuckin over artists, ras kass gettin the shaft, ect.

All your thesis has to be is a sentence at the end of your into capsulating your entire speech... i.e. "Running a Successful record company requires a balance of talent, business skills, and distribution" Or something like that.

Man, just think of it this way. If you can rap on a track which 100's of people will hear across the world, it should be a piece of cake to get up in front of a class of people and say a speech.

BTW....What are you studying?
