Anti-Americanism ... in a neutral counrty
« on: September 13, 2002, 03:18:37 AM »
Self-proclaimed world police, the United States of America now want to launch a war of Good vs Evil. But the rest of the western world is begining to question who is really "evil". If America is so wonderful, why did they pull out of the KYOTO agreement to save the environment so they could continue guzzeling oil at low prices. Why do they only pay lip service to helping those most in need, as anything more would sacrifice economic growth. What is so different from the propoganda in Nazi Germany to the american propaganda in all forms of media. How many sympathetic tv documentarys are made about the bombing of Afganistan. How many movies have you seen where the heroes arent americans and the villians russian, middle eastern or asian. Why do america back israel when they are so blatently at fault. Why do they want to start WAR to preserve world PEACE?? Why is Ireland letting the americans refuel in our country? These are questions that 4/5 people in my country are now asking.
Everyday in school, in at least two classes while discussing world issues, we can see clearly the alternative objectives of the usa.  Contrary to popular belief, the anti-americanism has nothing to do with jealosy. It has everything to do with foreign policy. Very rapidly america is becoming the single largest rogue state. All the mourning over the 11 september deaths (RIP), is unrivalled in history, although atrocities equalling that happen every year in europe, asia, middle east africa...everywhere. I believe no people are more important than others. What are the views from other countries, including the usa? Certainly here, in the past year people have become very much more sypathetic with the afgans than the americans. To signify this, a quotation from the 11 sept announcement in our school " remember today all those murdered mindlessly in hate in new york, and all those murdered mindlessly in revenge in afganistan, may we have peace not war"

I agree 100%

200,000 innocent civilians "going about their daily routine" dead in Hiroshima.

Lets forget about that one then shall we.

"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

"no country is near perfect..Check out your country fighting over a fuckin religion..and other various parts of the world over a fuckin thing that aint even real"

I agree with that. No country is near perfect. I know this country isn't but for the moment we aren't 100% profit driven. Socialist parties still have enough power to give the country a conscience. While no country is perfect, I think it is important that counries strive for that, especially on an international basis. For instance, Ireland has the highest per capita aid for the third world. In my personal opinion, I feel the world's most powerful nation should lead by example.
It may seem to those further away that the fighting in Ireland is over religion, but I think the record should be set straight. It is more over old colonisism than anything. Very similar to Israel-Pakistan in a way. Efforts are constantly being made to reach peace through non-violent means and its slowly making progress. I dont find that Bush's war on terror really has the aim of satisfying both sides, but rather satisfying party backers many of whom are rich oil tycoons.
Thanks for the props everyone. Amazing how keeping your ears open every once in a while feeds your brain.
