Producers signature drum patterns
« on: January 24, 2004, 06:06:29 AM »
When listening to beats by certain producers you can tell its them sometimes just by the drums they use for tracks.

For instance Kanye West always used a slightly delayed second kick before the snare/handclap. So that instead of being K _ K _ S, it goes K _ _ K S.

And Pete Rock always used to put a double snare hit in his tracks, which 9th Wonder now does quite a lot as well.

Anyone else notice stuff like this?

Usually it's the sounds they use.
Ex.: Swizz' snare from '98-'01

Dre usually has almost the exact same drumpattern though.
K: Kick
H: Hi-Hat
S: Snare

K H S H K H S H K H S

Most DJ Quik beats alternate kick and snare on each 1/4 note and his hi-hats come on the 1/4 while most hip hop producers have their high hats coming on the 1/8 notes.
Being a LAKER is a privilige. Unfortunately some "Lakers" have forgotten that.

I don't pay a lot of attention to the drum patterns, but there's sum stuff I notice, like Dre's pattern based on constant use of Hi-Hats, but usually I'm more interested in the melodic part of a beat. The drum pattern is just the rhythmic background, it's more subtle
