Kanye West - College Dropout

1) Intro - Funny...good intro...i dont really like intro's but i can stand this one

2) We Don't Care - 8/10...great production, the intro set up the song very well...pretty funny

3) Graduation Day (Skit) - good way to set up the rest of the album...dont mind this skit

4) All Falls Down (feat. Syleena Johnson) - 9/10...again great production, great lyrics (im very self conscious too), and the flow was dope as well as syleena johnsons vocals. actually better than the OG

5) I'll Fly Away...5/10...i can't remember whether this is a skit or not...basically i know i liked every actual song on this cd so it gets a 5 for not being a standout track.

6) Spaceship - 10/10...one of my favorites on the cd. lyrics arent bad at all...actually they're pretty good and the message is good. the beat is hot and the flow by kanye and consequence is dope.

7) Jesus Walks 10/10...probably my 2nd favorite from the album...didnt like it when i first heard it a couple months ago...but i actually listened to the lyrics and shit today and its amazing...im lovin it.

8) Never Let Me Down (feat. Jay-Z & Ivy) 10/10...my favorite from the album i think...jay killed it, kanye killed it, ivy has a great voice. beat is amazing.

9) Get Em High (feat. Talib Kweli & Common) 9/10...the beat couldve been just a little stronger...other than that i couldnt find anything bad about the song...i love it. the beat wasnt bad by any means it just didnt really meet my kanye standards. definetely a damn good song though

10) Workout Plan - 9.5/10...one of the best of the album...funny as hell...only problem is i can tell its going to start annoying me in a couple weeks.

11) The New Workout Plan - 10/10...i like this one better than the OG...i think bosko murdered the shit...he sounded great. i love this song.

12) Slow Jamz - 8/10...great song...great replay value...the only thing i dont like is how many slightly different versions there are

13) Breathe In, Breathe Out (feat. Ludacris) - 6/10...one of 2 songs on the album that i thought could've been left off...beat was sub-par and the flow/lyrics just werent all that

14) School Spirit Skit 1...wish they would've left off this skit

15) School Spirit - 6/10...another i could've done without...beat wasnt all that...actually the track was just kind of boring

16) School Spirit Skit 2....again...should've been left off

17) Lil Jimmy (Skit)...kinda funny...but i could've done without it.

18) Two Words (feat. Mos Def, The Harlem Boys Choir, Freeway) - 10/10...another favorite of mine...mos rips it, freeway even does a good job...and kanye rips it as well. lyrics are good, beat is hot, the boys choir sounds great.

19) Through The Wire - 10/10...the story behind this song is one of the best...rapping while his jaw is wired...the lyrics i enjoyed a lot...some serious shit while still keeping it comical (the doctor said i had blood clots...but i aint jamaican man)

20) Family Business - 10/10...another favorite...i've loved this track since i had it on the advance...still love it...i dont see the difference everyone is talking about though...i mean i can hear a very very slight difference but i like it better.

21) Last Call - 9.5/10...great way to end the album...i love the beat and the way he told his whole story of success at the end of the song...i just wish he shortened it up just a little...song was almost 14 minutes long. i would've been happier around the 10 minute mark...but still a great track.

all in all i'd say this cd is an 8.5/10...the skits and the 2 weak tracks kept it from being a 10/10 album...if they had cut those things out it would've been a classic album...but to me a classic is something i dont have to skip through...ever.

Nice review homie - you got similar feelings to me on most tracks.

Like I've said elsewhere, this is the best album I've heard in a long, long time... last record I bought that gave me such a positive, soulful feeling was Quik's Rhythalism, and the last album I bought that equals this in terms of overall quality was Nappy Roots' Wooden Leather...

Best track: 'Family Business' - still gives me goosebumps to hear...

Only track I could do without: 'Two Words' - just hasn't clicked with me yet. But, I know nearly everyone here likes it, so I'm willing it give it time to grow ;D

Overall? Shit, AT LEAST 9 out of 10.

And to everyone saying you can't rate an album as classic so soon: sometimes you just know, y'know? ;)

01. Intro - I can't stand this one, would be better if it went straight into We Don't Care
02. We Don't Care - 9 - Great intro, solid production, simple but effective flow along with great verses.
03. Graduation Day (Skit) - The only intro I can stand because of the insane piano/violin riff at the end.
04. All Falls Down (feat. Syleena Johnson) - 10 - At first I liked the original, but now I can say this is the definite verison. Easily one of his best productions and best example of sampling. Once again funny & smart verses.
05. I'll Fly Away... - I can't rate this but it shoulda just been at the start of Spaceship, nice vocals and piano though.
06. Spaceship - 10 One of my favorite on the album, working mans song. Consequence ripped it.
07. Jesus Walks - 10 Most likely the best song on the album. Just listen.
08. Never Let Me Down (feat. Jay-Z & Ivy) - 10 Classic. Everybody came sick, Kanye's best verse on the album.
09. Get Em High (feat. Talib Kweli & Common) - 9 The beat is a little different, I guess he was going for the Neptunes sound here. Either way the song deserves a 9 just to hear Common Resurrected.
10. Workout Plan - The funiest skit, it should have just been at the start of The New Workout Plan.
11. The New Workout Plan - 10 Funniest song, hands down. Amazing breakdown at the end.
12. Slow Jamz - 8  I like this verison better.
13. Breathe In, Breathe Out (feat. Ludacris) - 8 The weakest song on the album. His flow and verse are on point but the beat and the hook are merely alright. Luda shoulda had a verse.
14. School Spirit Skit - Not needed at all.
15. School Spirit - 9 - Great track, nice sample & great rhymes about the school system.
16. School Spirit Skit - See Skit 1
17. Lil Jimmy (Skit) - Once again, not needed
18. Two Words (feat. Mos Def, The Harlem Boys Choir, Freeway) - 10 - Amazing beat, hook & verses. Good to hear Mos rip a song like that.
19. Through The Wire - 10 - Kanye in a nuthsell. Funny lyrics, solid flow & speed up vocal samples.
20. Family Business - 10 - Nice way to wind down the album. Full nice verses.
21. Last Call - 10 - Smooth ending, I just wish he would speed up his rambling.

Over all there are quite a few flaws in the album. Too many skits, alot of material was released before and some of the best songs on the advance were taken off. But because Kanye's humor, message & production the music surpasses all of that, so I can't give it less than 10.

Bottom Line. The Album is fire! It's not that we are hateing on any tracks. It's the fact that the rest of the album is that much better them those songs. ;)

I'm not feeling some of the tracks as much as you guys.  "The New Workout Plan" is pretty horrible in my opinion.  Most of the time I can skip from track 8 to 18 which isn't a good thing.  But the start and end of the album is where the good material is.  "Jesus Walks" and "Never Let Me Down" are superb songs and I can't complain about the last four tracks.

If you cut tracks 1,5,10,11,13,14,15,16 & 17, then you have a really solid album.

Overall - 8/10

I want Nas to deliver evertime but he doesn't every time Sage does. so Sage gets my $15 regardless or his status. fuck your status perception and labels you use.

Am I the only one not feeling this album?

Maybe its cause i'm white and im in college, but i thought the album was pretty wack.  There were about three or four songs that i really liked and then maybe two decent tracks and i thought the rest of the album was garbage.  Kanye's production was tight, which it pretty much always is, but I just wasnt feeling his lyrics at all.  I dont think hes really funny and i dont really like his chorus's. sorry, but thats just my opinion.

peace

ps. slow jamz on twista's album, which i think is a much much better album than this album, was a much better version, kanye should have just used that.

I loved it. I didn't expect that great an album but I was pleasantly surprised. 4.5/5 IMO.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.
