Greatest Song Lyrics
« on: April 18, 2002, 08:00:49 PM »
Everybody post your favorite deep, spiritual, or uplifting song lyrics.  Anything that's helped you psychologically, spiritually, or anything, anything that's helped you get through life, ha.

Here's a first one to set it off, I expect some tupac soon, lol.

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer:
God Bless America.
Land that I love
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies ,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America
My home sweet home.

God Bless America,
Land that I love
Stand beside her,
And guide her,
Through the night
With the light from above,
From the mountains,
To the prairies,
To the ocean,
White with foam,
God bless America,
My home sweet home.
God bless America,
My home sweet home.

When the senate all got on the east steps of the capital, and sang this at dusk, impromptu, after our darkest hour, september 11th, when america felt the world was falling down on them... it became apparent to us, that America could never die, could never be killed, and that I was truly a part of the greatest country in the world.  That's the feeling I got from it, it really moved me, when they just busted into that song.

Anymore?

Infinite9559: you know where the term "God bless America" came from?
Infinite9559: A newpaper writer named Cass coined the phrase in 1844, and Polk was the President that used the slogan to get into office, and it was the belief that we could kick Indians and Mexicans off their land because God intended for us to expand from sea to shining sea, it's Imperialism at it's worst

Man, that's messed up.  When you put up tupac lyrics, you want me to come by, and post that he was raped in prison?  Check yourself, that's haterism "at it's worst"

You're so negative, get positive.

these are mine....

The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Just A Closer Walk With Thee

I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

When my feeble life is o'er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

Yeah, Pink, those songs were dope.  Latter Day Saints don't sing many "Cross" Songs, because they feel it's dwelling on his pain, but I love that song, I wish we sang it more.

Peace~

^^Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that! I know why you sing it... I think it's a great song, our church just emphasizes different things with their songs.  I need to go download a nice choir version of that one, though, ha.  Your right, it's a great song.  ^^

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - "Under The Bridge"

Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
'Cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills
'Cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lie

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way, yeah, yeah, yeah

It's hard to believe
That there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way...

(Under the bridge downtown)
Is where I drew some blood
(Under the bridge downtown)
I could not get enough
(Under the bridge downtown)
Forgot about my love
(Under the bridge downtown)
I gave my life away, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Away)
