Why Is Christians Celebrating Christmas??
« on: April 11, 2002, 03:02:01 PM »
nobody know when Jesus is born, since it havent been written in any kind of script ... Christmas started 300 after christ. when the current pope ordered it, he wanted a day to celebrate Jesus and since the romain had the "Sun-Worshiping" day every 25 december, the pope thaught it would be a good day for christmas since people already wascelebrating...

is it correct to celebrate christmas on a day that he wasnt born and on a day witch is taken from the romains "sun-worshiping" ??

(its not ment as a diss, i want to have a discussion... plz cirrect me if im wrong)

Maybe we want to celebrate Christ's birth, but don't know when it is, so try to get a good date for it?

according to the bible God havent said anything about celebrating Jesus's birth... if God wanted you to celebrate, whouldnt God have given yall the specific date insted of letting yall pick a random date, a date when romain heathens are celebratin their "sun-god" ?

God never said to but we do it anyways. I guess cause it's the "holiday season" around that time.

why not?  ???

astroligically it's been proven that the whole star thing happened in the summer or spring, but  back when christmas was started they had no way to know it....god doesn't ask us to celebrate easter which is accurate but we do it anyway, i'm sure god really dosn't mind the intent of christmas at all, anything that glorifies his name is ok

When they looked at the calender, I guess they figured that a week before the end of the year was good. Because after Christmas, Christains used to celebrate the rest of the week of the birth of the Lord. This would led to New Years. Also the calender was changed in the Middle Ages sometime, because before there were like 10 months, the the Vatican decided that a 12 month calender was more accorrect. But what your thinking of was Saturn, which's day was between December 17-23. I just looked it up, and it was a winter festival because in Rome, he came to Rome and started the Golden Era. And Saturn was the God of Time. Thought the celebration of Saturnalia was much like Christmas with gift giving and such.

Most Christian countries celebrate Easter over Christmas, more so Catholics, as Christmas was the birth of the man, but Easter was the Resurrection, and confermation of Jesus being the Son of God.

Man, I'm gonna say some stuff, and I hope it doesn't offend the christians on the board, I am one too.

I'm a latter day saint, and I've found that the church offers many, many answers to questions like this that ordinary churches won't touch.  Like, for instance, we know as a fact that december 25th wasn't christ's birthday.  We celebrate it out of tradition, because we're a fun-loving religion, and why not celebrate his birthday on a traditional holiday wiht the rest of the world? Would'nt we look like jerks if we refused to celebrate christmas, LOL.  There is nothing wrong with celebrating his birth, if you remember the reason for the season.

The prophet was told, by god, through revelation, that Christ's birthday was in fact on April 6th.  Christ was also killed on April 6th, on his birthday.  Also, The prophet was instructed to form his church on April 6th, which in when the church of jesus christ of latter day saints was founded.

Peace~

Yea, lemme recount that 'death date' score.  Perhaps he wasn't killed on his birthday, i'm not positive the church believes that, it's just something a member told me, we both could be wrong.  But we do believe he was born April 6th.

Too long to go into, and I don't totally understand it, but that's the general date most everyone agrees on.  Plus, our prophet told us god told him April 6th, LOL.. but you probably won't take that as 'hard evidence', LOL, I know I wouldn't if I wasn't a member.
