"The Eminem Show" Review
« on: May 11, 2002, 02:56:35 AM »
Okay, post any reviews here.  I can't yet because I don't wanna d/l the album.  Once I get the CD I will put up a dope review, but for now everyone could put up their own analyzes.

white america- the lyrics are really good, the beat is okay, and the refrain isn't the best, but with good lyrics, it makes it a good song. 4/5

business-hilarious beginning, i believe its produced by dre, sweet beat, good song. 4/5

cleaning out my closet- great song, beat,  lyrics 4.5/5

square dance- kinda a funny song, i can tell the refrain will get annoying though 3.75/5

soldier- just an average song for this cd in my mind  3.75/5

say goodbye hollywood-catchy beat that i love, sounds like dre, not sure who produced it though for sure...i've heard something similar to the sound and beat during the verses  before, i just can't figure out where though, anyone know? 4.75/5

drips- i don't really care for the refrain on the this song, obie (i believe) comes correct on this though 3.75/5

without me- even though its kinda poppy, i still really like this song, funny lyrics and music video 4.5/5

sing for the moment- i love the sample on this one, em drops some good verses too 4.75/5

superman- i like the beat, em talking about girls, good overall song 4.25/5

hailies song- might be my favorite, em sings on most of this one, and to my surprise, he is a decent singer, and a lot better than he gives himself credit for.  i don't mean to say he's a great singer, but he sings very effectively on this song( a lot better than ja rule could do).  He talks about his daughter on this one, and it shows his love for her. Great song! 5/5

when the music stops- nice song with d-12, sweet verses, some of them are very funny 4.25/5

what you say- dre and em drop some good diss verses, but it could have been better. Simple beat, but still fairly effective 4/5

till i collapse- i like the beat ( kinda like the "we will rock you" one).  Nate does a great job on the refrain, and em again drops nice verses 5/5

my dads gone crazy- has hailie in this song, funny song- 4.25/5

Overall i think its his best album, and it seems to get better with each listen. keep in mind this review is only after about 4 full listens, and i still need to listen to the lyrics more.  I guess the rating will only go up after more listens, as some of the songs seem to take a couple listens to really get into.  Eminem drops another great album (4 in a row), and only time will tell how great this one will turn out to be.

i'm gonna change my rating of business from a 4 to a 4.9,  my rating of soldier from a 3.75 to a 4.25, and every other track under a 4.75 to .25 higher, this album is really growing on me, my favorite cd of his so far. A more mature album, which makes its replay value higher.  I also think this cd has the best overall beats of all of his albums, but i will need to listen to his other 3 cds again to confirm my opinion.

My ratings...

White America - Em comes strong about the state of our country over a dope dum/guitar driven track. 4.25/5[/b[

Business - Tight ass Dre beat snatching the Batman theme for the guitar.  Em just goes with the beat. 4.75/5

Cleaning Out My Closet - Em confronting his mother over a emotional song. 5/5

Square Dance - Shady just spittin fire over the best beat he's ever concocted. 4.75/5

Soldier - Em in his fuck you mode.  Tight hook and lyrics once again.  4.5/5

Say Goodbye Hollywood - Nice chorus and lyics about Em leaving the fame. 4.25/5

Drips - Em introducing Obie Trice.  Not the best track on the LP. 3.25/5

Without Me - Catchy first single.  Dope. 4.25/5

Sing For The Moment - Very meaningfull song about America's youth. 4.5/5

Superman - Em flows over this tight guitar melody. 4.5/5

Hailie's Song - Nice combo of singing and rapping. 4/5

When The Music Stops - Em shines on this, Bizzare comes wack though. 3.75/5

Say What You Say - Dre and Em trading lines over this JD diss track.  Dre comes iffy with the raps. 3.75/5

Till I Collapse - Slim Shady @ his best.  Str8 fire with Nate Dogg on point with the hook. 4.25/5

My Dad's Gone Crazy - Another shocker to end the album with Halie doing the hook. 4.25/5

Em's best LP yet.

Man STFU... you can't compare Minority and Eminem... lol Minority is not a professional recording artist, he created his EP with a 5 dollar mic and a computer. Eminem has got unlimited resources and possibilites when recording/producing an album. Unlike Minority, Eminem can access a professional recording studio. After creating an album, he uses highly qualified people to oversee/master his product. These valuable resources is not available to Minority. I ain't gotta say nothing more, I know you're getting my picture.

here is my ratings:

White America - 5/5
Business - 4.5/5
Cleaning Out My Closet -5/5  (would give it a 6 outa 5...:)..lol...love this track)
Square Dance - 4.25/5
Soldier - 4.75/5
Say Goodbye Hollywood -4.6 /5
Drips - 4.25/5
without me- 4.4\5
Sing For The Moment - 5/5
Superman - 4.6\5
Hailies Song -5\5
When The Music Stops - 4.5/5 (would be nicer if it would be only EM on this one...)
Till I Collapse - 5\5
Say What You Say - 4.5\5
My Dads Gone Crazy - 4.24\5

as the people who heared this amazing piece of work prolly know.....the flaws on this album as minor as they might be...r not lyrical or stuctural...they r mainlly lil problems wit the execution,un-finished production etc(it would be even better to say that is has no flaws but some tracks stand out more than others...lol)....this album has too much classic shit on it...this is prolly EMz best work to this moment...a classic-SOON to become one at least...

2 classics in a row...nice JOB EM... ;)

Man, those ratings I gave are not good enough anymore.  After bumpin the album some more this album is a classic.  Songs like "Business," "Square Dance," "Say Goodbye Hollywood," "Sing For The Moment" and "Superman" are on the brink of classic-ness.  I think they will be in a few months.
