2Pac + Outlawz - Still I Rise
« on: February 25, 2002, 07:49:42 AM »
Being as I had heard all the bootleg copies of all these songs I thought this was an o-k album, if song of the songs had been kept in thier original form could've been a classic.

1.  Letter 2 The President - Pac's lyrics are fuckin' great.  Outlawz are alright.  The original is better, but kept the beat almost the same.  What I didn't like was the fact that they took one of Big Syke's verses out.  But still one of Makaveli's best tracks.  4.5/5

2.  Still I Rise - Pac's verse again is simple amazing.  Almost like poetry.  I'm really feeling what he has 2 say.  The outlawz come correct on this one 2.  I like this better than the original only cuz the chrous is better.  5/5

3.  Secrets Of War - Didn't like it as much as the original which was phat as hell.  They didn't do a bad job with this one, but just liked the org. so much couldn't get used 2 this one.  3/5

4.  Baby Don't Cry (Keep Ya Head Up II) - One of the unbootlegged tracks on the album and also the first single.  Classic Pac, good 4 a single, kind of main-stream.  Really feeling this one, I like when Pac raps about real life events.
5/5

5.  As The World Turns - Another unbootlegged track.  Loved this one 2, Again Pac has meaningful lyrics and the outlawz shine on this one.  Great Johnny J beat, if only he had beats like this on Until the End Of Time. 4.5/5

6.  Black Jesuz - Not as good as org.  but not horrible.  Like Khadfi's verse and of course Pacs.  Beat is errie.  Can't skip this one.  4/5

7.  Homeboyz - The hardest track on the album.  Unbootlegged.  Pac's verse is phat, but Noble's verse is what got me really thinking he can shine.  Produced by Daz Dillinger so you know it bangs.  Though I wish Daz had a verse in this one, cuz it seems like he should be here, don't know, maybe the org had him in it.  4.5/5

8. Hell For A Hustler - I like what they did with the beat on this one.  Made it very errie, I guess the only thing I didn't like was the taking off the outlawz on the chrous.  But overall, I think they made this a banger.  5/5

9.  High Speed - Another one of my fav.  Beat is something that could of made it appear on The 7 Day Theory.  Love the chrous.  Great song.  5/5

10. The Good Die Young - Slow song, but beat is phat.  This song gets me thinking about Pac making a song about himself.  Just crazy.  Only problem is Pac's verse is way 2 short and he only sings once.  But still tight 4/5

11. Killuminati - Sounds like a dance song, cuz of the beat but still is phat.  Has A couple Biggie disses.  Good up-tempo song.  Outlawz are phat.  Kind of reminds me of the new World Wide Remix, not sure why though.  4/5

12.  Teardrops and Closed Caskets - Was very disappointed with this song.  Made the beat way 2 popish.  Kinda songs like a slow rock song.  And they kinda messed with Nate Doggs chrous.  But love the message and story telling in this song.  3/5

13. Tattoo Tears - Totally fucked up this song, beat is fucking horrible.  The org.  is fuckin' hard, but this beat sounds really really bad.  2/5

14.  U Can Be Touched - Love this fuckin' song.  Johnny J provides a great beat and all the outlawz bust tight verses.  Pac only does the chrous and kills it 2.  Could of used a Pac verse, but still a tight song.  4.5/5

15.  U Don't Know Us - Outlawz solo.  Though you can hear Pac in the backround, if you listen very carefully.  Think this song is a diss 2 Mobb Deep, they just don't mention names.  Tight ass song, proves the outlawz have what it takes 2 make it on their own.  5/5

This album is very phat even though other reviewers gave it poor reviews and it didn't sell well.  Overall I think its a 9/10.  Would've been a perfect 10/10 if they kept the org. beats

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

You Can Say It Was A Slept On Album, But Thats Only Because There Was Fillers In There. Some Real Dope Songs, But They Dont Have The Same Effect As Albums Like "All Eyez On Me" Or "Me Against The World" My Favourite Cuts From This Album:

Baby Dont Cry (Keep Ya Head Up Part II)
Hell For A Hustler
Tattoo Tears
Tear Drops And Closed Caskets

Why does it matter that he's dead? People still listen, buy & worship Elvis' music, he's dead. Same goes for alot of other artists. Music is one of the only things in this world that will outlast us all, music is forever.

Anyways. "Still I Rise", along with "Until The End Of Time" is my fav. 'Pac album released after his death. Even though some of the songs on both albums were switched up from their original & sometimes classic state, these are both pretty strong albums imo. Am I the only one that thinks 'Pac's lyrics/voice/flow rides perfectly over the "Killuminati" beat on this album? Dope ish.
