Cypress Hill - Stoned Raiders

I was anxious as fuck to hear this album as soon as it dropped, and here you have
it, my views:

01 - Intro
Really average intro. Some scratched samples with a guitar beat, very average.
Beat: 2.5/5 - Entity: 2.5/5
2.5/5

02 - Trouble
This is a great opening song. It's rock music, but the beat is amazing, some of the
best I've heard this year. B-Real and Sen Dog raps about their struggles in life.
They both come out great. Really, really dope opener. The chorus will make you jump
around, and that ain't no bullshit.
Beat: 4.5/5 - Lyrics: 3.5/5
4/5

03 - Kronologik (feat. Kurupt)
Really classy piano loop here, kind of similar to Jadakiss' "Cruisin'".
Kurupt rips the chorus:

"You don't know no real shit nigga
It's the original Cypress Hill shit nigga
We're no niggas you don't feel shit nigga
You ain't on no real shit nigga"

B-Real reflects on Cypress Hill' history with great success. You can really paint
your own picture by listening to his lyrics. Sen Dog does not appear here, except on
some background vocals. Overall, I feel this.
Beat: 4/5 - Lyrics: 4/5
4/5

04 - Southland Killers (feat. MC Ren & King Tee)
Another piano beat by Muggs here. I hate to admit it, but it's hardly more than average.
MC Ren sets the tone right away, with a hard (as always) and sometimes hilarious verse:

"Big ass checks with plenty of O's
And hoes with big lips doing what they're supposed
Didn't have shit till I started to bust
And y'all got shit cos' it's in my balls to cuss"

King Tee also delivers a great verse here, you gotta listen to it. B-Real and Sen Dog
appears in average fashion.
Beat: 3/5 - Lyrics: 3.5/5
3/5

05 - Bitter
B-Real solo. This is an lyrical oddessey from Louis Freese. An fantastic dark, kind
of nihilistic beat with female vocals which runs till 1:40, then B starts flowing.
As I said, the lyrics are almost unbelieveable, which made me think that he spent a long
time writing this. It's kind of like Nas' "One Mic", about B-Real's bitterness.
Beat: 4.5/5 - Lyrics: 4.5/5
4.5/5

06 - Amplified
Well, there had to be one of them. This song is totally wack. The beat are totally gay,
it's a punk rock beat, like The Oppspring and Green Day uses.
What a stupid manuveor it was to include this song. The chorus signifies the ultimate
wackness. B-Real and Sen Dog doesn't impress much either, only B's sometimes intruiging
vocals saves this song from 1/5. It was really painful to listen to this song.
Beat: 1.5/5 - Lyrics: 2.5/5
2/5

07 - It Ain't Easy
Wow, another introspective song, and another about struggles. B-Real and Sen Dog
switches bars but showcases only average lyrics. What makes this song is an
incredible rock/hiphop beat with violins, horns, rock guitars and heavy drums.
Above average song.
Beat: 4.5/5 - Lyrics: 3.5/5
3.5/5

08 - Memories
B-Real reminisces on a lot of issues on this song. His chorus is ghostly, probably made
to scare the listeners. His 1st verse is average, but he steps up on the 2nd with great
philsosophic lyrics:

"Learn how some of these record companies, be hoin' you
Attaching the image, in the end, controlling you
But we set out, to set ourselves upon
And let these people know just what they had from the start"

What is really plaguing me though, is Sen Dog's bullshit verse. He almost ruins an
great song with an excellent beat. This is basically the same song that was used on
the "Bones" soundtrack, only this version is longer, and (shit) it includes Sen Dog
vocals.
Beat: 4/5 - Lyrics: 3/5
3.5/5

09 - Psychodelic Vision
Another dope beat, another B-Real solo. He flows fast with great rhymes here.
The subjects on this album are getting monotone and boring, though. B raps about his
guns on the chorus and his reminices and gangsta style on the verses.
Not comparable to "Bitter", but still great. It fails to separate itself from the
other tracks.
Beat: 4/5 - Lyrics: 3.5/5
3.5/5

10 - Red, Meth & B (feat. Method Man & Redman)
How can you hold two of the industry giants with such a lacklustre beat? Muggs gives
one of his worst beats to the song with Meth & Red. Unbelieveable, with so many
quality beats showcased on this album. All three MC's got good verses, nothing
extraordinary though. The chorus by B is as wack as it gets. This was the album's biggest
disappointment for me, mainly because of the beat.
Beat: 2/5 - Lyrics: 3/5
2.5/5

11 - Lowrider
1st single. This is the moment I have been waiting for. Cypress Hill take you on a
G-funk ride with a funked-out, superb laidback beat, which may easily qualify as the
best on this album. B-Real's verse are dope, and Sen Dog has an alright
verse. The average hook/chorus can be forgiven. Check out B:

"I drop rhymes to grow to increase ya smokin
Ear drums feel like lungs, your brain's chokin'
Just let it soakin', seepin', creepin', I'm keepin'
All your motherfuckers in the deepin'
You wanna trip then I got luggage
I stuck you in it, sent you off cos' you ain't rugged"

You have surely seen the video by now. This is arguably the album's best song.
Beat: 5/5 - Lyrics: 4/5
4.5/5

12 - Catastrophe
Another rock song. This song ain't no catastrophe, but I can't call it great either.
The rock guitars are noisy and irritating, but B-Real saves the song once again with
great lyrics. I'm really getting impressed with his lyrical display on this album.
Sen Dog comes off average, which overall is the word for describing this song.
The chorus will probably make you bounce, if you're a fan of rock music.
Beat: 2.5/5 - Lyrics: 3.5/5
3/5

13 - L.I.F.E. (feat. KoKane)
I was hoping that KoKane didn't appear on this album, but unfortunately he did. He
spoils this song with his pointless hook and stupid background crooning which disturbs
B-Real's great aggressive lyrics. Sen Dog actually also has a great verse. This song
could have been classic, with its amazing beat which includes the classic whining
"G-Funk" sound heavily used on Dr. Dre's "The Chronic". (Check out "High Powered",
I'm sure you know what I mean). Overall one of the best songs on "Stoned Raiders",
despite the KoKane vocals.
Beat: 4.5/5 - Lyrics: 4/5
4/5

14 - Here Is Something You Can't Understand (feat. Kurupt)
This is probably a remake of Cypress classic "How I Could Just Kill A Man". Kurupt joins
Cypress Hill for the 2nd time on this album. He talks his usual bullshit for
20 seconds, then B-Real starts spitting. B and Sen Dog has average verses but Kurupt don't
impress me at all with his really wack verse. I got the feeling that he don't take his
music seriously, which is a shame. Dope keys on this one makes a great beat, but this song
is really nothing out of the oridnary.
Beat: 3.5/5 - Lyrics: 2.5/5
3/5

15 - Weed Man (Bonus Track)
One thing I recognized on this on this album, was the lack of an annual weed song. I got to
admit that this is the only REALLY average beat on this album, and this is an bonus track.
That says a whole lot about Muggs' production skills. This track is below average though.
Their weakest weed song to date, B fails to impresss with his lyrics here.
Beat: 2.5/5 - Lyrics: 3/5
2.5/5

Overall - This is a very strong album for Cypress Hill fans, like myself. What I can say
is that I enjoyed this album a lot, I would recommend it. It's not a classic, but you would
want to add this to your collection. What impressed me the most, was B-Real's lyrics, which
impressed me throughout the album, along with the very impressive beat selection. Three
wack songs, "Red, Meth & B", "Amplified" and "Weed Man" (the last one may not be on
some versions). But the album's biggest dissapointment was the Red & Meth collabo,
"Red, Meth & B" in which I had great expectations, unfortunately it was a huge let down.
The album's highlights were "Trouble", "Kronologik", "Bitter" and 1st single "Lowrider",
amongst others. Muggs is an very underrated producer, he should really get some
recognition. Overall this album is very entertaining, probably Cypress Hill's best one,
and easily one of 2001's best.
My rating is:

Beats: 8.5/10 - Lyrics: 7.5/10
Cypress Hill - Stoned Raiders - 8/10
