something i just wanna ask.. if he was so bad.. why did he get reelected?

A few reasons actually.

First off, many of his foreign affairs were not known to the United States public.  So whatever he did, he got away with, and it was exposed during the Bush Sr. presidency, when traditionally the former president suffers low approval rates anyways. So people think Reagan was a bad president after his presidency his normal anyways.

The economy, well many working class people were suffereing under Reaganomics, the upper, and upper middle class were enjoying huge economical booms, and since most voters are upper middle class and high class, they basically control the vote. Working class traditioning are low precentage voters, which is way since the 70's Republicans are the more dominating party in the U.S. dispite the working class being the majority of the United States.

Reagan was a great public speaker. His speeches, his presents, his campaigning was very well done. Reagan had the perfect public image that Americans love.

And lastly, Reagan was running again Jimmy Carter's VP, Walter Mandale, who like Carter was a great, great man of peace, and had even selected the first woman to run for VP as his running mate. In a time when the United States was in me first stage (it also became more common to start a conversation, me and my friends, rather than my friends and I) a peace loving person was not beating a person that was increasing military spending. After all, remember it was Carter trying to keep peaceful means that caused the Iran kidnappings. Reagan was a president we could feel safe having.

Regan was one of the top 10 best presidents we've ever had.

1911 February 6: Ronald Wilson Reagan is born in Tampico, Illinois, the second of two sons to John (Jack) and Nelle Reagan.

1928 August 3: "Dixon Daily Telegraph" front page headline reads: "Ronald Reagan saves drowning man." By the time he leaves his job, after seven summers, the count of those he has pulled from the water is 77.

Reagan enrolls in Eureka College, a small Christian college near Peoria, Illinois. Although never a model student (he graduated with a "C" average), Reagan is successful as both an actor and a football player

1945 March: Michael Edward Reagan is adopted.

1960 As a "Democrat for Nixon," Reagan champions Nixon’s candidacy for president, delivering more than 200 speeches in his support.

1966 January 1: Reagan announces candidacy for governor of California. He promises to reduce the waste in government and to "clean up the mess at Berkeley."

1967 January 3: Reagan is sworn in as governor of California. He inherits a $200 million deficit in a state where the governor is required by Constitution to submit a balanced budget.

Reagan proposes a 10% across-the-board cut. There are both needed cuts and unnecessary, unpopular ones, such as cuts in the mental health system and for the University of California.

February 2: Students stage an orderly demonstration in front of the California State Capitol protesting budget cuts and the governor’s request that a tuition be imposed for the first time in the University’s history. Two days later a much louder demonstration takes place with groups carrying signs reading "Tax The Rich. "

June 15: Reagan signs a bill liberalizing California’s abortion law. He will later regret the decision.

October 25: Reagan calls for a harder line on war protestors.

1969 January: Richard Nixon is inaugurated for his first term as president.

Spring: Reagan sends in the National Guard to break up a student strike at University of California at Berkeley. Armed with bayonets and tear gas, the National Guard occupies Berkeley for 17 days. The event establishes Reagan as a peace-restoring hero for some, a trigger-happy extremist for others.

In spite of campaign promises, California's state budget increases during Reagan's first term as governor.

1970 Reagan wins re-election as governor, beating the leader of the California Assembly, Democrat Jesse Unruh.

He calls welfare the biggest single outlay of public funds at the federal, state, and local levels of government. He will have to negotiate with the Democrat-controlled California Assembly for his welfare reform bill to pass.

1971 August 11: California legislature enacts a compromise welfare reform. The resulting law and the process which brought it about are widely regarded as a success.

1973 January 18: Reagan submits $9.258 billion budget with a $1.1 billion surplus, and gives taxpayers a rebate.

1979 July 19: President Anastasio Somoza is overthrown in Nicaragua. Under the auspices of Cuba, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) begins to consolidate a Marxist-Leninist regime in Nicaragua and help neighboring Communist-led insurgencies.

July 31: Reagan visits the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and is told the U.S. has no defense against nuclear attack, except the threat of retaliation.

November 4: Iranian militants seize the U.S. embassy in Tehran. Fifty-two Americans are taken hostage.

December 29: The Soviet Union invades Afghanistan.

1980 July 19-August 3: More than 50 nations, including the United States, boycott the 22nd Olympic Games in Moscow in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

September 9: Reagan unveils his vision at the International Business Council in Chicago. "We must balance the budget, reduce tax rates and strengthen our defenses."

October 14: Carter launches personal attacks against Reagan, calling him "dangerous" and "divisive." He moves slightly ahead of Reagan, but the strategy backfires; three days later, polls show that Reagan is ahead by 7 points. Reagan hammers away at Carter’s record, calling his administration ‘a litany of broken promises.’ Double digit inflation, high interest rates, high unemployment rate, and the Iran hostage crisis are all blamed on Carter. The race is too close to call.

October 28: Reagan-Carter debate. When Carter claims that Reagan began his political career with a campaign against Medicare, Reagan responds, "There you go again," demolishing Carter’s campaign strategy of showing Reagan as dangerous. On October 29, the day after the debate, Reagan leads by 5-1/2 points. Three days later, Reagan leads by 9 points.

November 4: Reagan trounces Carter, winning 44 states in the general election, and Republicans gain control of the Senate for the first time since 1964.

November 5:New York Stock Exchange surges sharply. Defense, oil, and technology stocks lead the surge.

In Poland, Lech Walesa leads an independent trade union, Solidarity. The democratic movement is forced underground after Poland declares martial law to squelch it. Reagan becomes an ardent supporter of Solidarity, imposing sanctions on Poland.

1981 January 20:Reagan is sworn in as the 40th president of the United States. On the same day, Iran releases the 52 remaining hostages who had been held at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran for 444 days, while Carter was president.

February 18: Reagan unveils his "program for economic recovery" to a Joint Session of Congress. Reagan calls for $41.4 billion in cuts from the Carter budget, mostly from "Great Society" programs to benefit the poor, and vows to maintain a ‘safety net’ for the poor, the disabled, and the elderly. He also calls for a 30% tax cut over three years and an increase in defense expenditures, and vows not to cut Social Security.

March: Reagan enjoys a high approval rating, with two-thirds of Americans favoring his economic programs.

March 17: Senator Pete Domenici hammers out a bipartisan agreement to freeze Social Security cost of living increases (COLAs), in order to rein in Social Security growth and reduce budget expenditures. David Stockman, Reagan’s budget director, who has been planning (secretly) to cut $44 billion out of Social Security, opposes the proposal, hoping for deeper cuts. He is joined by Reagan aides James Baker, Edwin Meese III, and Michael Deaver, who convince Reagan that accepting the proposal could jeopardize congressional support for his economic program. Reagan reasons that he doesn’t want to go back on his campaign promise not to touch Social Security, and rejects the bi-partisan proposal for cuts.

March 30: Reagan is shot by John Hinckley, Jr., outside a Washington hotel. Hinckley says he is trying to attract the attention of actress Jodie Foster. Press Secretary James Brady is also hit, suffering brain damage. Reagan is more seriously injured than his short hospital stay and jaunty manner indicate. The bullet missed his heart by less than an inch; it lodged in his lung causing it to collapse.

July 29: Congress passes Reagan’s tax bill. Instead of a 30% tax cut, Reagan accepts 25%. Reagan predicts the nation will be "seeing some signs" of prosperity by end of the year.

September: Reagan appoints the first female Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O'Connor.

1983 January 1: The official unemployment rate reaches 11.5 million. Hardest hit is "rustbelt." In Milwaukee, 20,000 wait in 20 degree weather to apply for 200 jobs at auto-frame factory.

January: Reagan's approval rating plummets to 35%.

January 31: Reagan submits his fiscal 1984 budget to Congress; $189billion deficit. A combination of the recession, tax cuts, and an increase in defense spending are to blame. Advisors urge Reagan to either raise taxes or cut defense, Reagan rejects the advice and vows to "stay the course."

Spring: First signs that the economy is recovering. It will soon take-off with dramatic force. Lasting 93 consecutive months, it will be the biggest peace time economic expansion in U.S. history.

December 15: The U.S. launches Operation Staunch, advising the international community not to sell weapons to Iran to force a negotiated settlement to Iran-Iraq War.

1984 March 3: High-ranking CIA agent William Buckley is kidnapped by terrorists in Lebanon.

April 16: Reagan signs directive for aggressive posture to terrorism. The new policy is set forth in a document officially designated National Security Decision Directive 138.

May 9: In a televised speech, Reagan makes a case for helping Contras in Nicaragua.
"The Sandinista rule is a Communist reign of terror. Many of those who fought alongside the Sandinistas saw their revolution betrayed. They were denied power in the new government. Some were imprisoned, others exiled. Thousands who fought with the Sandinistas have taken up arms against them and are now called the Contras. They are freedom fighters."

November 4: Reagan defeats Mondale in landslide. Reagan carries 49 states -- 525 electoral votes to Mondale's 10, and 59% of the popular vote. One fourth of registered Democrats voted for Reagan

1985 February 3: Gallup poll shows Reagan’s approval rating 62%, disapproval 29%.

1986 January 15: Reagan signs legislation making Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, birthday a national holiday to be celebrated on the third Monday of January.

April 14: In retaliation for the bombing of a West Berlin night club where a U.S. serviceman was killed, U.S. Air Force & Navy bombers hit Tripoli and Benghazi in Libya.

August 27: Reagan signs an anti-terrorism law that bans arms sales to nations that support terrorism, and strengthens U.S. anti-terrorist measures.

1988 May 29: Reagan is in Moscow for a summit. Muscovites line the streets to greet his motorcade with cheers. When people the street heard the Reagans were there on the Arbat, a street market, the crowd surged forward; and the KGB charged the crowd, hurled people aside and threw punches at them. Reagan muttered that this "is still a police state."

May 31: Reagan gives a speech to students at Moscow State University beneath gigantic bust of Lenin. "We do not know what the conclusion will be of this journey, but we’re hopeful that the promise of reform will be fulfilled. In this Moscow spring, this May 1988, we may be allowed that hope: that freedom, like the fresh green sapling planted over Tolstoy’s grave, will blossom forth at last in the rich fertile soil of your people and culture.

June: U.S. unemployment hits a 14-year low.

You can also say they voted for him to help end the Cold War.

It was more so the Soviet Union dying than Reagan stopping the Cold War. Gorbachev once said that it was ashame that he had rockets that can fly around the moon, but no one can eat, the Soviet Union use to have show off their missles to the world, but it was later found out that they were empty, The Soviet Union in the 80's actually had a negative gross, so the country was losing money. There was no way in the world the Soviet Union could keep up. Reagan telling Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall, it was the East German's who wanted to keep that wall up, and later it would fall anyways, not because Reagan said, but because the German's were finally tired of it. A strong Soviet Union would never allow that, a strong Soviet Union would find a way to keep East Germany as a buffer state, no matter what Reagan said, bu the Soviet Union was weak, and Gorbachev was trying to stop spending money on military because the Soviet Union was suffering trying to keep up with the United States. Eventually the Soviet Union feel, and shortly before that, the Berlin Wall did so Germany was re-united, the Communist Eastern European governments collapes and the Cold War was ended, not because Reagan was president, but because the Soviet Union was weak, it could not survive any longer.

I guess you want me to reply to your timeline too... I can only take them one at a time... lol

Anyways, I'm not putting no timeline about Reagan, anyone can put a timeline on anyone. I'll say this, I have taken a class on Economics, well quiet a few actually. Reaganomics is basically economics 101. If people have money, they'll spend it. Which makes sense Reagan would understand this because he graduated college with an Economics degree.

Reagan, as I've said countless times, reduced upper middle, and high class taxes. They had more money, so the economy boomed for them. That's great, 2/3's of the country was doing well. The problem was that lower class working people were losing money, as the average pay for people in the lower tax bracket, non adjusted to inflation, dropped, if I remember correctly, dropping low income pay by about $5,000. Which after you take into consideration inflation, was like getting a $7,000 pay cut. don't quote those numbers, it's been a while since I've looked at them, but I could refind them, and it will still be the same, so maybe you can find them too, though I got mine from a book. Under Reagan, upper middle, and higher class strived, it was a huge economical boom, and when they take those polls, they ask people that are voters, and lower class people on average don't vote. The lower/ working class was struggling, and did not hit their economical boom until Bill Clinton, who raised higher and upper middle class taxes, but lowered working class taxes, or if you don't make enough money, completely cut taxes all together. So working under Bill Clinton strive to complete the economical recovery from the shitty times known as the 70's. Back to Reagan, his plan was that if you cut high class taxes, then they spend more money hiring people. The problem was that business is about profit, not hiring people for the sake of economical recovery. The end results was more professional jobs, and less of the working class jobs needed to fully recover the economy. It was a step to economical recovery, but the lack of attention to the working class has not, nor will not be over looked.

something i just wanna ask.. if he was so bad.. why did he get reelected?

Because he was the establishments go-to-guy.  He could play a role in wars in Central America that killed 150,000 people, arm dictators like Sadaam Hussien with ammunition to cause tyranny in Iran, give tax cuts to the rich, take away the poors wellfare and biuld more prisons them, cut afterschool programs for disadvantaged youths, and do it all with a smile and make it look good.  He was a great actor.

"You can't fool all the people all of the time, but if you fool the right one's then the rest will fall in line."

Big Business and media was behind him, if they got your back, then they can atleast fool another 30% of the population, and since half the population doesn't vote anyway, that's enough to win an election.

Anybody who knows anything knows that I don't know shit about politics, but I just found this funny:
