Royce Da 5'9 - Rock City Review
« on: November 15, 2001, 11:25:39 AM »
01  3:01   Its Tuesday
02  4:02   Rock City
03  4:25   Getcha Paper
04  4:06   We Live
05  3:52   You Cant Touch Me
06  4:13   Lets Go
07  1:39   D-Elite Part 1
08  4:00   D-Elite Part 2
09  3:32   Shes The One
10  3:53   Boom
11  4:38   What Would You Do
12  3:44   Who Am I
13  5:18   Life
14  3:35   My Friend

Now.. despite all the delay and the average ass "You Cant Touch Me" i still have expectations for Royce....

It's Tuesday - Dope beat wasted for the first minute.. then Royce starts spitting... he sounds pretty good... hopefully he continues to sound hot throughout.

Rock City - Dope-ness. I liked this since i first heard it... produced by Eminem apparently?  anyways.. i like the beat.. especially on the hook... as long as Royce continues to rep hard this should be good.

Getcha Paper -    "Rock City is the anthem.. This one is the theme" I like the way Royce flows on this.. the beat is fairly good.. nice drums anyway. The hook is kinda irritating....

We Live - Irritates me right away... they steal some lyrics from an old rock song right at the start.... once the song starts Royce sounds tight.. but the hook is irrrrrrrritating as hell... the beat is so-so.. nothing outstanding.

You Cant Touch Me - I'm sure everyone's heard this.. I dont like the beat ... or Royce really.. I just dislike this song all together... its trying too hard to be jiggy or something....

Lets Go - I feel a dirty south track coming... yep.... Royce flowing super fast... at least he sounds good... but i cant really get into it... i just easily tire of this type of song. add an irritating hook and you have an average ass song.

D-Elite Part 1 - Royce sounds alright on this... the beat is good... his flow is rhythmic.. i get into it more as i listen....

D-Elite Part 2 - The ad-libbing at the start is annoying and i dont like the beat... i also dont like whoever this is on the start of the track.  Should i know who this crew is? because they're zzzzz to me.

She's The One - the beat is so-so... sounds lazy.... Royce sounds alright, but nothing amazing... another irritating hook.

Boom - The standout track.. along with Rock City its basically holding the album up on its own... If you havent heard this... how is the weather on mars?

What Would You Do? - Better production than most of the album... Royce sounds fairly good... at least he's spitting with some energy... this would have to be the third best joint on the album so far... the hook is so-so...

Who Am I - this flips an old Tupac/Thug Life song.... "Pain" i think.. cant remember for certain.. anyways.. the Tupac song is better than this one.

Life - Different Vibe... more of a deep/soft beat... one of the better produced joints on the album.... the hook is good.... overall... better than What Would You Do... third dope joint of the album.

My Friend - Sounds like another Primo joint...i remember this now.. i heard this like 2 years ago.. back when Boom was brand new..... dope song.... Royce basically needs beats to get the job done.. and this time he gets one.

Basically... for an album that took this long to come out.. this is a horrible disappointment for me....
This album had no direction, generally bad production.. and a lack of passion on the mic from Royce on several tracks.... he just sounds lazy.

In the end I give this album....

2/5   :(

Damn Cliche, you shit on Royce, giving him 2/5, that is pretty low.  It's gotta be at least 3/5, oh well.
YA, that Rock City cut with Eminem is amazing i think, that chorus is unbelievably catchy and this song is sure to be a big hit with Em on the chorus and that itght beat.
THanx for the review, i am gonna check the album out......
