Rating The Beats On "Dr. Dre 2001"
« on: November 11, 2001, 04:08:16 PM »
This was the album were Dre's new style fully appeared, futuristic funk...now, it's Dre's signature sound.  I'ma rate each beat out of 5, then I want you guys to do so.  Giv and overall grade for the beats too.

The Watcher - 5/5 - Classic beat to start shit off.  Great bass, with tight horns and trumpets in between many layers of keys.

Fuck You - 5/5 - The guitar on this is crazy, and again, the bass is nuts.

Still D-R-E - 5/5 - Very unique for Dre when this hit.  The ukelaly (spelling) is the body of the track.  Great beat all around.  Drums are ill too.

Big Egos - 4.5/5 - Nice raw drums on this one.  A keyboard orientated beat with a dark tone to it.

Xxplosive - 4.5 - Great beat.  The guitar makes the track.  Good bass.  Pretty simple beat.

What's The Difference - 5/5 - So much shit goin on with this one, trumpets, violin samples etc.  Then when the hook kicks in it gets even more uglier.  Awesome beat.

Light Speed - 4.5/5 - Dre really showcases his futuristic style here.  You got all these fireworks/atmospheric noises poppin off.

Forgot About Dre - 5/5 - One of the greatest beats I've EVER heard.  Dam, those violins are mad tight period.

The Next Episode - 5/5 - What can I say.  Ill drums, and Dre goes nuts with those space age sounding samples.  Beat is at it's best when the bridge kicks in before each verse.

Let's Get High - 4/5 - Not really feelin the heavy bass at all.  But the beat gets better when the chrous comes in.

Bitch Niggaz - 3/5 - Not really feelin Dre here.  Too plain for me, doesn't fit wit the album in my opinion.

Murder Ink - 4.5/5 - Dre's borrow's the Halloween keys and updates em 2001 style.  Lot of futuristic shit sounding off here.  An errie beat all together.

Some L.A. Niggaz - 4./5 - The drums and bass play off nicely.  Great keys here once again.

Ackrite - 4/5 - Nice beat here, I like it better as the song moves along.

Housewife - 4.5 - Bass is dope, more errie keys which I love.

Bang Bang - 5/5 - Unique beat.  The plucking sound by the guitar is nice and the keys are ill.

Overall:  Classic 10/10

The production on this album is superb, even though I think its a highly overrated album. The production was w/o a doubt the strongest point of the album. Im not gonna rate every song, cuz I havent heard the album in a while, but Dre came nice on the boards. Still, I think Doggystyle remains his best work, as far as production goes.......

The Watcher - 4.5/5

Fuck You - 5/5 - Bass Line's Off The Richter

Still D-R-E - 4.5/5 - Dope, But Kinda Overrated.  The Lyrics And Vocals Made This Song.

Big Egos - 4.5/5 - The Drums Are Awesome.  Best Drums Ever On A Dre Song?

Xxplosive - 5/5

What's The Difference - 5/5 - Sound That's Never Been Done Before, I Don't Think.

Light Speed - 5/5 - Keys In The Background And Sound Effects Make This Perfect

Forgot About Dre - 4.5/5

The Next Episode - 4.5/5

Let's Get High - 4.5/5 - The Ambience In The Background Makes This A Dope Song.  Nice Harmonies Too.  And The Rappers Play Good Together.

Bitch Niggaz -5/5 - Incognito, I Disagree With You On This One.  That Beat Was Very Good.  The Bassline Alone Makes It Great.

Murder Ink - 3.5/5 - Not Very Dreish.

Some L.A. Niggaz - 5/5 - The Way He Drops The Beat Out Every Few Bars Is Genius.  Listen To Hittman And Xzibit's Verse, And The Way They Play With Silence.  Awesome.

Ackrite - 4/5 - Decent

Housewife - 5/5 - Dope Funky Bassline.

Bang Bang - 5/5 - tight, Tight, Tight, Tight, Tight, Tight Sample.  One Of The Best Ever Samples, I Think.

The Message - 4.5/5 - Very Nicely Done, The Keys Are Very Pretty And Elegant In This Bad Boy
