Personal Business dope ass review

BAD AZZ Personal Business 2001 Doggystyle Records

1.      Intro: Da Birth (Born Bad) – feat. Mac Minista  - A really nice intro, I never skip it. Mac puts another piece of humor over a live beat (snatched from a blues record, I think). – 3,0
2.      U Don’t Wanna Be Broke – This track is produced by a DJ Don and I cant understand why it’s his only track here, bcuz tha beat iz BANGIN! I hope yall seen the video, and yall know Bad Azz can act any role. Well, on the track he blasts u with another piece of knowledge. Any young MC should check this one, bcuz this message comes not from a 40-yearoldschooler like KRS, but a guy just like yall, and he’s not preachin but teaching. And I love how BadAzz imitates the shotgun sound like FFRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAA! – 4,5
3.      Get Yourz Now – A very fast track, really makes you jump up and go get yourz. Damn, the album starts witta right type of mood! – 4,5
4.      Ready 2 Bang – Just plain DoggHouse, with gangbang lyrics, Kokane shittin up your ears and Snoop in that fucked-up Snoopy Collins alter ego. All that entourage isn’t really needed, I always thought Bad Azz was too serious to have Kokane on the chorus. – 4,0
5.      Streetz  Illustrated feat. Ice Cube – Well, this one will hype u up! Strangely this song smells Dirty South, though it’s designed by Jelly Roll (who produced a shitload of tracks here). Mr. Bad is really dope. Ice Cube flows heavily, but the chorus “We be in them streets, every single day” is ridiculous. Even Vanilla Ice is seen in the streets more frequently than that bitch Cube. – 4,0
6.      When Bus Calls (skit) feat. Busta Rhymes – I don’t really get what it’s here 4. First of all, the title is funny – imagine a bus callin on yo phone. Seriously, Busta just calls Bad to go party. I wonder what the fuck will BadAzz do with them Flipmodians. Maybe have sex wit Rah Digga. – 2,0
7.      Personal Business (feat. Lady V) – I’m glad to hear her, and I’m glad to hear Bad Azz over a relaxed beat with meaningful lyrics, a combination I love since Word On Tha Streeets. – 4,5
8.      We From The LBC (feat. Snoop Dogg) – I like this track, typical West Coast. Any Californian from Spice1 to Lunasicc would love to be on it with Snoop. Both MCs come relaxed, a good match. – 4,5
9.      Too Many Choices (feat. Lil Tip Toe & Lil Beau) – I love it. The only Low Life track here is extremely laidback and rainy. The lowlifes come smart enough. Lil Beau is a good producer (personally, I would be glad if half of Jelly Rolls work was replaced by Lil Beau and, say, Soopafly). –4,5
10.      How We Get Down (feat. Doggy’s Angels & Latoya) – This track is sunny, it makes u feel like you walkin on a road on a hot day. The chorus might be more powerful though. – 4,0
11.      2001 4dr. Cadillac (feat. Ras Kass, Sylk E Fine & Butch Cassidy) – In fact, Butch is the only necessary guest here. Ras would better be put on a meaningful track, he sounds out of place on a LBC-rep track. Silk E Fine should just quit rappin. Overall the track is a West Coast anthem, Bad Azz just reps for his side, Blaqtoven on the beat. – 3,5
12.      Money 2 Fold (feat. Bad Azz & Snoop) – Originally this was a Snoop-Kurupt track, BAD was added later. Snoop wanted to put his vocals on Bad’s album so badly that he put his one year old song and made Battlecat upgrade the beat. Originally the beat was funk, but Cat put a piano all over so that Bad Azz rhymes and that damn piano are the only things u can really hear, Snoop’s & Kurupt’s shit sounds like from another space. – 3,0
13.      When You See Me (feat. Snoopy Collins, RBX & Kokane) – All that DoggHouse shit is really out of place. The first one and a half minutes you’ll hear nuthin but Kokane doin another shitload of his UUUUUUNHHs and OOOOHHHHS, and Snoop really fucked up talking some shit. But the melody somehow catches you, and it really saves the track. – 3,5
14.      Dogghouse Ridaz (feat. Snoop Dogg, Goldie Loc, Kokane & Suga Free) – Bad Azz had to represent for his clique, so this track IS necessary, though Suga Free sounds clitoris as always. Battlecat is cool once more. – 4,0
15.      Don’t Wanna Die (feat. Daz Dillinger & Blaqtoven) – Hold your breath b4 u hear this one, bcuz it starts witta automatic gun spray right in your ear. This Track is brilliant! See, the difference between Daz’s and Snoop’s camp is that Snoop is playful half at the time, while  Daz is always HARD GANGSTA. This track is produced by Blaqtoven and believe me he did a perfect work. The beat is fast and the melody is just cryin. Lyrics are GANGSTA. Check this out:
“And FUCK you niggas, hatin little Pac imitators
Wanna be Outlawz, nigga Snoop the Top Dogg!”
“Nigga don't it feel good to be a D.P.G.
We escaped from Death Row, you're still locked in the click!”
Bad Azz calls out Death Row bitches! Ha ha! Doggystyle Records is a menace! – 5,0
16.      Life Ain’t Never What It Seems To Be – Jelly Roll’s beat is dark and hard. Bad Azz is tight. Nothing bad to say. – 4,0
17.      Wrong Idea (Feat. Snoop Dogg & Lil HD) – This song ain’t new, yall know. Maybe that’s why it didn’t hit hard as a single. – 4,0
18.      WBLO (skit) – Coco Loc of the Lowlifes is actin a DJ. A Latino kid calls and asks for a Bad Azz track. Coco tells him to quit cursing.
19.      Life Ain’t Hard – A nice Cali track, Mr. Bad talks about life. Listen to the words. – 4,5
20.      It’s On All Day – Another thoughtful track, a wonderful conclusion to the album.
“What gangstas gotta do as saviors and prophets
Nothin, ain't no connection at all
Except the fact that we created by the All Mighty God
That ain't enough to stand up and clap your hands for this song” – that was wise. – 4,5

Overall Personal Business gets 7 of 10. It’s perfect in the beginning, then in the middle somewhat not good enough, then perfect again. Bad Azz really needs no guests, except the singers. All that Kokane shit just sucks here. Lyrically, Bad azz is “at the needle point of perfection” when he talks about life and really hard when gangbangin on the mic. Let’s hope that next album will be produced by Blaqthoven, Ant Banks, LT and no Kokane (I love that guy, but not with Bad Azz). Youngsters, pick this up immediately, and you won’t need to go to school this year. Californians, don’t sleep too. This is a lyrical gem.
