Flesh n Bone – T.H.U.G.S
« on: August 02, 2001, 10:49:25 AM »
Ok Ppl this is my review of Flesh’s first solo album.

INTRO.
Nice intro sets a good tone for the first track. This intro is more or less a prayer.
2/5

THUGS.
Great uplifting sounding track, catchy chorus and good production. Flesh is Rapids on this track and has some great lyrics to accompany his speed.
4/5

WORLD SO CRUEL.
Damn good track with flesh tearing up and Rev Run sounds good and holds his own on this. Great production and again another catchy chorus.
4/5

NORTHCOAST.
I love this track, the music sounds like it was lifted straight from a Porno film. Ha ha it cracks me up. Just chatting about how great the North side is. Has a guest appearance by Layzie bone who rips his verse.
4/5

NOTHIN BUT THE BONE IN ME.
From this point the album gets all dark with dark atmospheric music and eerie choruses. This track has cool laid-back music with Flesh ripping it at incredible speed. Great lyrics.
4.5/5

SILENCE ISN’T OVER.
The beat is great and has incredible base to it With Flesh ripping it again.
4/5

CRAZY BY THE FLESH.
The chorus samples the movie “The fly” and it sounds cool. I love the beat to this but the beat is too slow and Flesh is too fast. His rapping doesn’t really fit this track.
3/5

MYSTIC SPIRITS.
Same as above, great beat but to slow while Flesh is too fast. His lyrics are cool on this track and I love this chorus.
3/5

COMING TO SERVE YOU.
BG Knockout and Flesh. This track is INCREDIBLE both are amazing together and the beat is amazing (its similar to Sleepwalkers, Col. Vol. 2).
5/5

LIVE SOIL.
Amazing track, slow eerie and great guest appearances by Afta Maff. Basically this track is all about death but its done SOOO WEELLL.
5/5

STICKS N STONES.
Brilliant, lyrics and great with flesh ripping this and his flow is just cool.
5/5

EMPTY THE CLIP.
See “Live Soil”  just brilliant.
5/5

NO MERCY.
DEADLY, the beat is just raw and rugged. Flesh is just incredible on this track. Big Pun does the hook, which sound great, and the final verse done by fat Joe. If u haven’t heard this down load it.
5/5

PLAYA HATER.
Krayzie, Layzie and Flesh tearing up what more is there to say.
5/5

This album was released during the period when Bone could do no wrong and were on top of the hip-hop game. Just like Mo thugs 1, COACU and E. Eternal this is and was brilliant. This deserved to do SOO MUCH better than it did. Flesh rips more or less every track with the production brilliantly done. In my opinion it’s in the top 2 best bone solos yet. It was the first Bone solo and probably is the best.

Overall 9 out of 10.

Nice review dawg. This is indeed a hot album. Very underrated. The funny thing is, it got no radio airplay, but it still managed to go Gold. I wouldnt say its the absolute best Bone solo, but its hella nice. Got that dark gritty sound all Bone fans love. Id give it a solid 4.25/5.

Yeh i agree with ya.
The funny thing is if this album got the promotion it deserved i could have seen it going multi-plat.

I love this album and put this behind Thug Mentality. Its my 2nd fav solo.

I'll do a review for "5th dawg let loose" in a day or 2.

PS who put the cover pic of his album in my review. Thats cool.

Good review man.....here's my breakdown...

Flesh N Bone – T.H.U.G.S.

1. Prayer intro
2. T.H.U.G.S….Slow, laidback production.  Flesh opens up the album with a rapid fire flow good for 3 verses.  Song has sort of a “Christian” message to it.  Nice hook.  4/5
3. Reverend Run sermon…skit
4. World so cruel…Nice soft “nicer” beat to it that fits the lyrical content perfectly along the lines of ‘If I could teach the world’.  Run appears for a verse which is tight as hell.  4/5
5. Northcoast…Laidback production with a saxophone in the loop, which sounds great with it.  Flesh provides 2 great verses then his brother Layzie sets it off with a bomb ass verse.  Good hook.  4/5
6. Nothin’ but da Bone in me…Dark sounding production.  Flesh sounds great mixed with the track.  4/5
7. The silence isn’t over…Another evil sounding track.  Great stutter-step on the hook.  Flesh’s flow is slowed more than on other tracks, but it matches the production well.  4/5
8. Crazy by the flesh…Production has a hint of darkness to it.  Flesh rides the beat nicely.  Evil sounding hook.  3.5/5
9. 51/50 skit
10.   Mystic spirits…Production matches Flesh’s flow and style perfectly.  It definitely has the traditional Bone Thugs “dark” feel.  Great hook.  5/5
11.   Coming 2 serve you…A+ production.  Evil sounding beat.  Perfect hook.  Flesh’s flow is on point and B.G. Knocc Out appears to lay some flowin’ ass lines down matching Bone’s “faster” style of delivery.  5/5
12.   Tha killin’ skit
13.   Live soil…Decent sounding beat with a hint of darkness.  Flesh appears only at the end with a tight ass verse, but the guest rappers aren’t that interesting to listen to.  3/5
14.   Sticks and stones…Catchy hook.  Flesh’s flow is decent, but the beat is average.  3/5
15.   Empty the clip…Definite overall dark feel to the track.  Afta Maff makes another appearance on the track, doing a lot better job than on ‘Live Soil’.  3.5/5
16.   No mercy…Track features Big Pun and Fat Joe.  Flesh’s flow really stands out.  Guest artists do a decent job, but overall, I’m not really feelin’ this track.  3/5
17.   Playa hater…Slow, laidback beat.  Features Layzie Bone and Krayzie Bone.  Flesh’s verses are average, but Layzie and Krayzie set it off.  4/5

OVERALL…4.25/5

Flesh ‘N Bone’s first album proves to be a great CD.  His flow as a member in Bone Thugs N Harmony is often overshadowed by Bizzy, Layzie, and Krayzie.  Here, he puts down some great verses which is matched with great production which still contains the “dark” vibe.  My only complaint is Afta Maff.  Besides that, a great album.
