LAS VEGAS - Singer Linda Ronstadt (news) not only got booed, she got the boot after lauding filmmaker Michael Moore and his new movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" during a performance at the Aladdin hotel-casino.

Before singing "Desperado" for an encore Saturday night, the 58-year-old rocker called Moore a "great American patriot" and "someone who is spreading the truth." She also encouraged everybody to see the documentary about President Bush (news - web sites).

Ronstadt's comments drew loud boos and some of the 4,500 people in attendance stormed out of the theater. People also tore down concert posters and tossed cocktails into the air.

"It was a very ugly scene," Aladdin President Bill Timmins told The Associated Press. "She praised him and all of a sudden all bedlam broke loose."

Timmins, who is British and was watching the show, decided Ronstadt had to go — for good. Timmins said he didn't allow Ronstadt back in her luxury suite and she was escorted off the property.

Ronstadt's antics "spoiled a wonderful evening for our guests and we had to do something about it," Timmins said.

Timmins said it was the first time he sent a performer packing.

"As long as I'm here, she's not going to play," Timmins said.

Ronstadt had been booked to play the Aladdin for only one show.

Calls to Ronstadt's manager were not immediately returned.

In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal before the show, Ronstadt said "I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back."

Looks like she got her wish.

That's weird since Vages is such a melting pot of people.

Oh well, she should keep politics out of an entertainment event anyways.

why should she?

the most disgusting part was the hotel escorted off the premises and have refused to ever let her back because of those remarks? isnt there suppose to be a freedom of speech? why is this artist getting punished for speaking her mind?

Free speech not only entitles you to say what you like, but for those who disagree with you to speak out as well.

You do not have a "right" to have concerts, you don't have a "right" to sell albums, and your employer may indeed fire you, If you think that's wrong, go to work Monday and tell your boss to kiss your ass and see if your "free speech rights" result in a backlash.

These morons seem to believe the public backlashes against their stupid views are being orchestrated by the Bush administration, as though that's the only way it could happen.

They edited out Jada's "Why did Bush knock down them towers?" line, that's not freedom of speech.
Being escorted off stage because you encourage someone to go see a movie, how will you categorize that.. ?

I think the whole episode is hilarious.  Also, the whole 'freedom of speech' thing is rediculous.  She *HAS freedom of speech.  The government didn't do a fucking thing to her.  "CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW".  Read the shit before you just go around throwing the words around like you wrote it yourself.

I dunno about you, but the last time I looked, I didn't see the Hotel Manager @ the Aladdin's name anywhere on the Bill of Rights.  I DONT BELIEVE he signed it.  So I don't see how he's held to it?

If I'm your boss... and you say something I don't like... I may or may not fire your ass.  If I wanna be a prick about it, I may not let you back in your room before you go.

Scenario.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Say you're a construction worker, and you work for me.  I drove you to Virginia, we're up there digging a ditch for somebody.  As you're standing in the ditch, you say "You know; that guy that doesn't like your brother, Ronnie... I agree with him.  He's spreading the truth, everybody should listen to what he has to say".

What am I going to do? Allow you your freedom of speech? Hell no.  I'm probably gonna fire you, and if I'm feeling like an ass, I'm not even gonna give you a ride back home.  Why? .. because I can.  I have the freedom to do that if I want.

I don't understand how that's such a hard concept to grasp.

With all that said, I think the manager over-reacted a little bit, I probably wouldn't have fired her, and I would have let her back in her room, regardless.  There's probably more here than we've heard, folks... for instance, she said before hand she was trying to get them annoyed at her, so they wouldn't hire her back, or whatever... there must have been words before hand, and the manager already was pissed at her, I'd bet money on it.

How? It's not edited out on BET. I haven't heard it on the radio, but so what if they do edit it out? It's a company trying to minimize potential trouble. This isn't a freedom of speech subject. By the way, Jada is a fucking moron for that line. I'll accept Bush knocking down the Towers... in exchange for him taking the blame for every school shooting thanks to his music. Thats the same kind of logic he's using.

I wouldn't call it censorship. It doesn't even fit into the same category. Did the government step in and tell her not to say something or else she would face consequences? Nope. She chose to politicize her concert, and the owners of the venue chose not to accept it.

Jome, You really can't be comparing the two can you? 8 mile is a movie about a rapper. Entertainment. the moore movie is a highly political flick that obviously a lot of people don't agree with.

"Ms Ronstadt was hired to entertain the guests of the Aladdin, not to espouse her political views. In an effort to defuse the situation, Linda Ronstadt was asked to leave the property immediately following her performance,"

Interesting..
I never mentioned the government, but she was still being censored by the concert people who closed it down..
Personally, I'd be pissed if I got fired for telling people to go see a movie, political or not.
Would you accept being fired for this.. ?

Politics = Entertainment
In the U.S. at least.. and Michael Moore is a entertaining mofo, at least to people with a non-biased point of view.

And this is a argument to shut down her show.. ?
It's funny how hot-headed some people get when the name Michael Moore is brought up, it's obvious that he hit some vital nerves..

I wouldn't be stupid enough to make remarks like that. If I was an entertainer, I'd do just that: entertain. People don't like me for my political views, they like me for my songs.

Did you just say Michael more was Un-biased?

Have you even seen his movie? Have you seen any of his movies? Moor himself admits he's one of the most biased people out there.

If the Alladin felt it was going to hurt their busienss, and obviously it was cause people were getting upset, it was great decision to make.

Don't misquote me, I said Moore is entertaining, not that he is non-biased.
I have seen his movies, he's pretty funny.. I'd also say he's so idealistic that it makes him biased, but that's good in one way imo.. he stands for what he believes in.

Fine, but you still can't say it's not censorship..
If a couple had sex on stage (like a couple did in Norway some weeks ago), and they were taken off stage, that would also be censorship because some people didn't like it.. wouldn't it.. ?

So, people countering your opinion with their own, differing, opinion and speaking with their check books is censorship? Nope. It's not censorship just because you misread your audience.  When the GOVERNMENT says you can't do something under penalty of law, that's censorship. When private actors level sanctions/boycotts against other private actors, that's freedom of association

People pulling you off stage because they do not like the movie you're plugging, and banning you from returning = Censorship.

The concert people considered it to be politically objectionable, they CENSORED her.

sure, the hotel could fire her - but to escort her off the property like a criminal, not even allowing her to go to her hotel room and collect her belongings - thats something else.

u tell me to go up to my boss and tell him to kiss my ass - thats nothing like this situation - she didnt insult anyone, she never said anything bad about the hotel or her fans attending the concert. all the fuck she did is say she liked a movie and dedicated a song to Michael Moore - it isnt offending anyone, it isnt being rude.

and even if freedom of speech doesnt cover this, no one answered the question why an artist should get punished for speaking her mind?
