Man, this game blows. Coming from playing espn is feels like you have less control of whats going on. Plus the presentation just can't compete with ESPN. I'd say if you can only get one game rent both to see first cause they're pretty different.

ESPN gots better gameplay too. Madden 2002 was the last one that was better than espn. Since 2k3 i've been playing espn and lovin it

I guess it's like Coke and Pepsi.  You can't really say one is better than the other, it's just a matter of preference.  I can see how somebody can like ESPN better than Madden just like I can see how somebody can like Pepsi better than Coke.  It's a bit deeper than that in this situation because some people like to root for the underdog (ESPN in this case) and then there are people who go with what they're comfortable with (Madden).  I try to do away with those subconscious thoughts and just pick the better product and IMHO... I gotta go with Madden.
