Dj Quik Retires: Passes Torch To Shade Sheist.
« on: October 03, 2002, 06:11:03 AM »
It has been mentioned before, but last friday a formal confirmation was stamped to the statement made by another member that Dj Quik has decided to retire from the "artist-side" of the music industry. In front of a crowd of several hundred in Yuma Arizona, Dj Quik announced that he had reached his official "final location" of his tour and that he would no longer "be doing this shit anymore." "I'm tired of not being respected, underrated- and all that shit!" At that point, Damizza and Shade Sheist (who both performed earlier) walked out on stage and handed Quik two bottles of Cristal champagne and said "if this is forreal, then we can't let you go out just like that." Quik took a long pause before popping the bottle and passing it to Damizza, who sprayed it over the entire crowd. Quik asked his dj to play "John Doe" (Sheist's new single.) Quik, now hyped-up started screaming to the crowd "it's time for the new niggas to have this shit! i'm not gonna disappear, i'ma still produce, but fuck being an artist, i'ma leave that to shade sheist right here- he's gonna hold me down.. and where is Hi-C and Suga Free?" Hi-C and Suga Free stumble back onstage and they performed a very fiery version of the John Doe record. Sheist blazed the venue with his verses, very uncharacteristic of his laid-back style. They then went into freestyle versions of "Oochie Coochie" (Hi-C and Sheist) and "If You Stay Ready Remix" (Suga Free, Hi-C, and Sheist.) Quik removed himself from his Gucci t-shirt and leaped on top of a big speaker, almost knocking a huge stage light into the crowd and stood there to take one last look at what he has decided to leave behind him. The show was a sight to see, I wish more people could've been there to see this monumental occurrence. There were a lot of other things that happened, but I'm trying to remember them all and write them at the same time- so I'm sure I missed a few details. I'll update this post if I can think of anything else. One.

as long as quik is still producing im ok as long as he dont leave the game completely....but its sad that it has come to this........quik is my second best producer IMO right behind Dr. Dre......i hope big things happen for him cause there is no doubt that he deserves it for everything he has done.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

John Doe - Quik Production
« Reply #10 on: October 03, 2002, 01:41:42 PM »
Wake Up is Shade Sheist's official 2nd single, however "John Doe" is considered the current street single, and there is vinyl available. Most stations that are playing Wake Up are also playing John Doe.

Dj Quik maintains that he will continue to produce, so don't worry about him going away anytime soon.

It's interesting that he passed the torch onto Shade Sheist.  I hope that means more Quik production on the next Sheist album.  John Doe was one of the best, if not the best song on that album.  Sheist sounds good over Quik.
