Forget who was king or who should be king... WHO WILL BE KING
« on: October 06, 2004, 06:35:39 PM »
For all you Snoop groupies out there, lets face it, the Dogg has fallen off. For all you Cube groupies, lets face it, he hasn't put out a solo album in 4 years, and it doesn't look like his putting out work anytime soon. Dre groupies, well Dre ain't a rapper, 'Pac groupies, his dead, Quik groupies, his not half the name he was before, Eiht groupies, no one remembers him, Eazy E groupies, his dead, Coolio groupies, he doesn't hit anymore, WC groupies, his name isn't big anymore,  Yuk groupies, not even the Luniz are a commercial name anymore, Too $hort groupies, his time has been up since getting it, but it's nice to hear him every now and again with his pimp rhymes, Death Row groupies, Suge is not going to put out new music, and Kurupt, if it even comes out, will not even go gold. Just the facts. So forget about anyone from westcoast past, who's peak was pre-2000 getting the crown again. Me, I'm a huge Snoop fan, but even I have to admit it's over. So who is the next king.

Is it Xzibit. pluses, finally out on his own, a must for being king. Like in 1993, how could Snoop be king when Dre is calling shots. Snoop wasn't king, Dre was because he was in charge. Xzibit isn't answering to Dr. Dre, he isn't answering to Tha Liks, Xzibit is building on his own. Strong Arm Steady, the Golden State Warriors when Ras Kass is free. His mainstream went up with Pimp My Ride. His seen as his own man now. On paper, he looks ready to take the crown. minuses, his inconstant, his not established yet, and his new album is not picking up the buzz that a Doggystyle, or a Chronic 2001, or an All Eyez On Me did. He might have to go the AmeriKKKa'z Most Wanted rout, and just hit them hard on release day and force people to buy it. Also, he lacks street cred, and has had his punk card pulled more than once. Should not effect him, but people love to know they are listening to real street gangstas.

The Game. pluses, huge buzz, Dr. Dre behind him, is attached to 50, so everyone will hear from him. Westside Story is a huge street single, and he has a couple other songs to back him up. He has street cred. Game is also not the most lyrical rapper, but can be lyrical at times, good enough to get his point across and sound nice doing it. minuses, Only been rapping for 3 years, so his not established as his own man. His not in charge, or seen as the leader. Dre would basically pulling his strings, so as a king, he would not be creditable.

Sly Boogie. pluses, the streets love him, has the ability to make great songs, and just needs one break to make it mainstream. His more lyrical than other westcoast artist. He also seems to be cool with many westcoast vets, and clicks. minuses, not from LA or the Bay, so having a king in the IE would just confuse people. Doesn't seem to have found his way in the mainstream yet, YET! If he ends up with the crown, it would be for at least 2 years.

Guerilla Black. pluses, he has mainstream hits, his part of a huge lable willing to put money behind him, and his ever ready to bust into the big time. His willing to change up to what the mainstream wants, and at the sametime represent Compton. Honestly, in Cali, as long as you rep us, we love you. minuses. Ok, his basically Biggie on the west. He really has no one behind him, like a crew of artist his going to put out. Black is almost an outsider on the westcoast, we'll see how he plays out.

Goldie Loc. pluses, member of the legendary DPGC, with Snoop, has gone off to his own, and if he puts out work, could have some mainstream hits. minuses. I basically put his name up because I think solo he can have a hit or two, especially if he hooks up with some old Snoop producers like Jelly Roll, Meech or Battlecat, more Meech to my ears... lol. But not a real threat to the crown.

Anyone else want to add any names here. Who can take the crown. The west is ready for a change. Though most wouldn't know it until Snoop has fallen so far off that it's too hard to watch him anymore. Until then, these guys and

Game is weak, just another punchline rapper. Xzibit has been pretty weak since 40 Dayz. Sly Boogie is good but is to much of a freestyle/mixtape artist to make it big. Guerilla Black is just downright terrible. Goldie Loc is past his prime as far as the mainstream goes.

Just my 2 Lincolns.(pennies, cents)

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

True - but isnt that what sells... and from the other post, everyone says Snoop is the king of the west at the moment, so when game's album drops, wont he be?  purely through his success? .. Thats what everyone seems to think

Ras Kass is too underground.

beng "king" does tie into commercial success.. Ras Kass has never had that.

(gives lost angel a prop for this post before forgetting)

right now... my money's down on Xzibit to shine most next... and of course game.. but how long that will last.. who knows...
