yeah drivers and application stuff..

right now more on the apps side..

anything from applications or APIs for our stuff.. to installation software

on the driver side i've done windows 3.11 (a lot of those had to be done in asm!), windows 95, 98 and NT and WDM drivers.
from basic stuff right up to file system filter drivers (nasty shit)

we also used to do a lot of DOS based stuff.. i've used a lot of diff prog languages and we have had to provide APIs for whatever langs our customers may use.

the company i work for makes computer security hardware stuff.. we provide drivers and software for it, along with APIs to talk to it (depending upon product).

we also do a lot of bespoke (custom written) stuff and i've been mostly involved with that side the last few years. (i've been there 7 years so far)

i like it as a career (apart from when its stressful.. deadlines n stuff) because you never do the same thing for more than a few months... so u cant get bored doin the same thing day in, day out.

at the moment im doing shit like Java, developing multimedia applications (designing a tourist board guide to edinburgh for a PDA), but what we're doing is pretty basic, which is worrying considering this is the final year of my degree lol

i never even went to Uni.. i got offered this job straight outta college..as I (or my folks) couldnt really afford to do uni..

thing is.. i've learned a hell of a lot on the job.. i came in at tech support level, getting help from the older engineers to learn/fix problems.. now i'm part of the old guard.. most of the people in my dept came in that way.
its a small company.. under 20 staff.. 6 of which are software engineers like me.

the only difference is, it's over now.. but in the game-gay thingy, half of the board was stombin on me for hours, putting it in sigs, writing pm's, ruining threads, further insulting, and it's still going to be brought up whenever engel is pleased I guess. That's the difference.
