Jurassic 5 Fights The 'Power'
« on: August 06, 2002, 07:02:06 AM »
California-based hip-hop outfit Jurassic 5 has set an Oct. 8 release date for its sophomore Interscope set, "Power in Numbers." The set is the follow-up to 2000's "Quality Control," which debuted at No. 33 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums tally and has sold 387,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. First single "What's Golden" can be sampled on the group's official Web site.

"Power in Numbers," produced by the group in tandem with Sledge and Omas and the Beatnuts' Juju, sports 17 tracks that revel in a classic hip-hop vibe along the lines of A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. In keeping with the old-school leanings, Big Daddy Kane guests on "A Day at the Races," featuring a peppy sample from symphonic funk mastermind David Axelrod.

Elsewhere, Nelly Furtado lends her vocals to "Thin Line," an insightful take on the "sticky situation" of moving a close friendship into more romantic territory. A number of other new tracks have been featured in Jurassic 5's performances on the Smokin' Grooves tour, which hits Holmdel, N.J., tonight (Aug. 5).

The group is expected to embark on a headlining tour later this year. In the meantime, Jurassic 5 rapper Chali 2na can be heard on the track "FRGT/10" from Linkin Park's new remix album "Reanimation," released last Tuesday. Jurassic 5 has also contributed to the "One Big Trip" compilation, due Aug. 13 via the Hieroglyphics' Hiero Imperium label.

I'm highly anticipating this album, hope it's as dope as their previous releases. Can't wait to hear the Big Daddy Kane collaboration.

Yesterday, DJ Clue and La La, (along with all six members of Jurassic 5), premiered Jurassic 5's new video, "What's Golden," on MTV's Direct Effect.

Let me tell you, that video is dope as hell!!! It's probably one of my all-time favorite hip hop videos; it has all kinds of crazy special effects and stuff. If you can, then definitely check it out!

Looking forward to this release, J5 are one of the most original groups out there imo, and i've said this before, they're like a breath of fresh air when it comes to hip-hop. Loving the new song and video, and I've heard that the collabo they've done with Nelly Furtado is suprisingly dope.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.
