What did you think of Snoop's No Limit days?
« on: December 05, 2004, 12:28:21 AM »
It may be nothing more than "give the people what they want" pragmatism, but No Limit's version of the rags to riches fairy tail was somehow more admirable and more likeable than the other inner-city music moguls.  Shame on the music though.

It's funny how No Limit came in with the force to take over the whole rap industry whole sale, and now they left the game indefinitely without any legacy.  They came, profited 56 million in one year, and faded into obscurity.

But remember Snoop's brief stint with No Limit?  What did ya'll think of his work over at No Limit, particularly Da Game album?   And that movie he made?  It was interestings to see Snoop in a different enviroment, but really No Limit had already began it's decline when Snoop entered their camp.  Master P should have really tipped his hat and left with "Da Last Don" album, then he may have salvaged some respect.  Snoop came tight on that album and the anticipation for his solo album was intense.  But Beats by the Pounds production was too workman like, Snoop admitted he completed the album in just a couple weeks.

I think his stay with No Limit offered Snoop the chance to get away from the drama Suge was bringin, and offered him a breathe of fresh air.  With his newfound freedom, wee then started to see his music become watered down as he began appearing on everybody and their mama's album.

Anyway... what did ya'll think of Snoop's No Limit Days?

he needed a change... 2pac just died, Dre, his mentor was gone. DPG was squat and well, he was still a name in rap.. so he had to do something, so it was a change he made. His lyrics, I thought were still good, the beats were just different... it would be like 50 cent rapping over a lil jon beat... it works, but not like dre could make it work...

Exactly. One thing that's always annoyed me is how Master P saved Snoop, gave him the platform for hooking up with Dre again - but now that No Limit is fucked, I've never even heard Snoop mention them. I'd like someone to ask him in interview how often he speaks with P and whether he feels he owes him anything.

LOL at the Tank Dogg album....

Don't forget, it really wasn't that easy for Dre to work with Snoop, cause Suge would have surely stood in the way of it.  Remember Master P had to pay a hefty some, 4 million dollars, to lure Snoop away from Death Row Records. (And still Suge got a a cut from Snoop albums released on No Limit) Suge owned Snoop's carear so much so, that when he was still signed to Death Row, he couldn't even guest appear on an album without Suge and the Row's approval.  Then after P bought Snoop's contract from the Row, he freed Snoop and allowed him to guest appear on any album he wanted to as part of the deal.  So I don't blame Dre.
