Is Deathrow going broke???
« on: January 25, 2005, 08:24:42 PM »
The Internal Revenue Service foreclosed on the Beverly Hills headquarters of Death Row Records, the notorious rap label founded by Chief Executive Marion "Suge" Knight, according to sources who have viewed the listing. The headquarters is slatted to be sold at a Jan. 12 auction. The IRS is seeking $6.5 million for the four-story, 30,000 square-foot office building at 8200 Wilshire Boulevard to recoup unpaid taxes and interest. While the building at the southwest corner of San Vicente and Wilshire Boulevards has only 42 parking spaces-a paltry 1.4 spots per 1,000 square feet - its prominent rooftop billboards and cell tower rake in $150,000 annually. Still, prospective buyers would have to assume a $4 million note already on the building, bringing the total cost to $10.5 million - $3 million more than the property is worth, sources said. "I was chasing it for a while but it's too hairy," said one prospective buyer. "You would have to negotiate with the IRS first and then hope to cut a deal with the lender." The building's sale is yet another blow to Death Row, formerly a top rap label boasting artist such as Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Its biggest artist, Tupac Shakur was killed in 1996, Interscope Records dropped its distribution deal and Knight was released from prison in 2001 after serving five years on a parole violation. Ed Merrick and Glen Rudy at Capital Real Estate Advisors LLC in Brentwood have the listing. Rudy declined comment.

donīt know what to say really coz this cuts both ways. DR was a great label and they put out some great music but at the same time nowadays it only seems like Death Rowīs involved in a gang of dumb shit that makes hip hop look fucked uo. wonder what Sugeīs gonna be doin now coz if itīs true he canīt hide behind that whole Death Row shit and fall back and talk about the past etc maybe this is the jump start that them guys needs to put out some new music and stop living in the past.

I wish they would stop putting out recycled material and actually release some new music. everyone who was into death row when they were at there height of fame will already have all those tracks so its never gonna sell.

it sucks for us tho, there is a lot of very good unreleased material in those vaults that may now never see the light of day.

shit he should just release an album of doggystyle, chronic, and doggfood leftovers, that is bound to sell and get him some money.  plus he wouldn't have to pay any of the artists.

Deathrow has been on the bottom since all the originals left the label Eazy-E told them they had 5 minutes of fame and 4 minutes are up and he was right.
