We all agree that streetz was better than 2001?
« on: August 26, 2002, 03:12:32 PM »
Please believe that. Dre got way to much credit that year for having a tight cd. Everybody that knows music knows that kurupt drop the cd of the year. I will stand by that till the day i die. Streetz iz a mutha was stone cold vicious. If you ask me streetz shoulda went 5x plat not 2001. We are all in agreement right? i just wanted to know what yall think.

hell nah.
Streetz is a mutha was tite, but it didn't break any new ground.
2001 set a example for hiphop-music worldwide, and that's what a classic is all about.

2001: 5 mics
Streetz-mutha: 4.5 mics

I thought they were both 5 mic material. Both in my personal top 5 alltime cds. But I gotta give Dre 2001 the slight nod.

2001 easily. Not taking anyway from Tha Streetz which was an exceptional album but 2001 was a monumental album which once again raised the bar for hip hop production. Fuck The Blueprint and Stillmatic because 2001 was truly the LAST classic that dropped.

Nah, "2001" takes that one lol.  "Streetz" is Kurupt's best album, but production (and rhymes) are overtaken by "2001."

2001 was overrated...The rhymes were shit and the production was nowhere near The Chronic...The whole second half after Next Episode was wack...Streetz had better production and rhymes...Too bad Kurupt ain't rhyme no more like he did on that album...

What are ya talking about?  Kurupt just rhymes about random things on "Streetz."  He had no real subjects for songs.  Now look @ "2001."  It was a concept album.  Each song meant something.  Dre had Em & Hittman write stuff that made sense.  Like "The Watcher," "Still D-R-E, "Forgot About Dre," "The Message."  His album made sense, and had structure.

I don't care...what Eminem and Hittman wrote for Dre was better than what Kurupt spit.  What Kurupt rapped made no sense.  Listen to the first song.

"2001" was commercialized rap at its finest
"Streetz Iz A Mutha" was gangsta rap at its finest, shit you could bang to in your car

I honestly can't choose one over the other. I mean, you gotta love Dre's shit, it's classic, even tho it's commericalized. And Kurupt came HARD on Streetz, gave us some of that gangsta shit that we hadn't heard in 3-4 years. Don't ask me which one's better... it's like askin me if I wanna do Shakira or J-Lo. Why not have a threesome, know what I'm sayin?

What about xxplosive, light speed, forgot about dre, the next episode, lets get high? Those really had messages didnt they....

I think 2001 is overrated as hell, no classic in my mind. It was a compilation with dope beats. Alot of pointless songs with no messages. therefor no classics.
