but in the end motell jordan was in the r n b section..so hes not relevant...i mean the west has had some pop acts (hammer, young mc) but that was the 80s and early 90s...we have never had a person like ja rule...nor will we have one...imo...the west is not about pushing units...we know that out the gate we will sell less than most east coast rappers...thats just label politics...where are most of the major labels based?...the east...they have officies out here but everything is east coast based...they over look the west and south and midwest for that matter....

Montell Jordan didnt start out actin' like a hard ass gangsta nigga either then switch up to droppin' pussy ass pop shit!! On Venni Vetti Vecci he acted like a hard type nigga and now he just str8 bitch ass pop!!! All Im tryin to say is that if some1 on tha west did switch like that they wouldnt be accepted as a west coast artist!! They prolly get put six feet deep!!!

Yo, U might be right....but I dont remember hearin' Montell Jordan rappin'!??... :-/

The closest thing the West had to Ja Rule in the past few years was Coolio. Like Ja his first album was cool but on the later releases he became more pop than anything. Coolio actually had social messages in a lot of his later songs still unlike Ja.

Montell's a bad example, 'cause he as in the R&B section, and also many R&B acts at the time tried to rap, look at Boyz II Men, and even Shai who sang If I Ever Fall In Love (I got the CD, great love making shit, and then a rap song...LOL) so Montell was just doing what R&B artist were doing at the time, all CDs after his first were straight R&B. If the west would have Ja Rule, I don't think we would care as much, 'cause he'd be seen as more a pop act. I mean, it's not uncommon for people to get mad at Snoop, Cube, Dre, or when he was alive Eazy E. Hell people were mad at 'Pac a bit for working with Eastcoast rappers in '94. And people talk about Def Jam money, Def Jam was once a small label with limited money, that main power behind Def Jam is Universal, which owns Island, which is over Def Jam. Universal is also reponsible for Nelly and Cash Money, see a connection. Puffy is with Arista, and so is OutKast. Ruff Ryder, Aftermath and Eminem are on Interscope, which has now plenty of rock acts to help make money, so as you can see certain label can pay for promotions. Other artist on smaller labels have a hard time. But still, if Ja Rule was west, we would have problems with him no doubt, and consider his sales non west coast.

it's pretty imposible to come out of the west as a pop artist..............and if he did and sang r&b shit he would really get mashed on for it from the west coast artists, even snoop gets some critisism for being a little pop but he keeps it gangsta more than any other main streem artist i can think of
